Scary, isn’t it? If our Jesus was not mercifull… Isn’t it the Orthodox who believe that even demons will have a chance to repent?
Apokatastasis, or the final restoration of all (including demons) to God, is not a definitive doctrine in Orthodoxy. However, since a few Church Fathers did teach it (Gregory of Nyssa and Maximos the Confessor, specifically), the final restoration of all “is a valid possibility according to the [Orthodox] Church.”

My understanding of the Catholic Church’s position on this, is that it is heterodox to theologically maintain that all will and must be saved in the end, while it is orthodox to humanly hope that all will be saved.

What does that MEAN…My God is Mother??
They’d probably turn the question around and say "Well, what does it mean to you?

Folks in that wing of apostasy are trying to expand the image of The Absolute from “father” to “parent” or whatever any individual needs at the time. Need a mommy? Okay, God is a mommy. Need a sympathetic ear? Okay, God accepts you just the way you are. Need a family? Okay, God is a father-mother and he’s your big sister, too.

They believe that the Bible is just the projection of some Jewish people’s inner spirituality, and that each person today has just as much right to get in touch with his inner god, have helpful experiences, and then express the story in a way that helps him and others who want to hear the story. All the stories are equally true so long as they are politically correct.

Instictively I laughed when I read this…thinking to myself how right you are. Then as I thought about it I cried. It is really sad that so many are trying to make God into their image rather than praising God that we are made in his and trying to be worthy of that! I am so saddened by this and by the “Christian” Churches that think that Christ wanted us to be these totally pacifistic, wishywashy, goddie fairies…you know…Our church is against the war, our church thinks we should let anyone who wants to enter the country illegally in and in fact we should bend over backwards to give them everything…food stamps, medical cards, education…and all at the expense of our own nation. Sorry for the rant folks…Yes I would love true world peace…but not at the expense of justice or righteousness. [/end rant]this is for you computer geeks like me out there in cyberspace…What ever happened to if you don’t work you don’t eat? What ever happened to earning what you have and not coveting what others have?

This reminds me of people in church who say “God” instead of “His” during Mass:

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands, for the praise and glory of GOD’S name, for our good and the good of all GOD’S Church.

Do you have any of those at your church?

In Christ,
Nancy 🙂

Well, not mine, of course, since I’m a Fundamentalist; but I’ve sure seen such folks in other places. The perversity of their syntax tracks the perversity of their thinking.

I know of a certain Monsignor who used to do this in his parish! Needless to say, I don’t attend Mass there anymore…he may still be doing it!
:crying:

Every now and then we see a thread that asks why don’t dissenting Catholics leave the Church. One astute person whose name I can’t recall pointed out, that by remaining in the Church they can either play the beleagured champion for Change, or they can play the oppressed victim. If they were to leave the Church, they would merely be another Episcopalian. Again, its about ME ME ME.

My God Is Merciful…I’m an Episcopalian!
Driving to the Catholic men’s conference on Saturday morning, on Van Dyke just north of I-696, I saw the following:

My God is Peace… I’m an Episcopalian

The worst part? In the background was a picture of military dog-tags.

I think Holy Mother Church should take out a billboard in response that says something like,“That’s not God…that’s Santa Claus.”

Julian of Norwich writes of God as Mother…seehttp://www.gloriana.nu/mother.htm

circa 1370…

But Christ our Lord, God, and Savior referred to God as His FATHER… like it or not, that is how He is revealed to us.

Hmm, I wonder if that’s not a local thing. Here in Chicago I’ve seen no such signage and I am an Episcopalian.

Look at it this way, with the liberals being driven out of all the other churches, isn’t it good that ECUSA is willing to minister to them?

Pax,
Amy
Minister to them, or cater to them?

I’m not sure that I fully understand what Julie was saying there. I also doubt whether she herself understood what she was saying there. But I understand enough to see that she wasn’t saying what the Episcopal Church is saying, thank God.

Interesting that the web site states that she was commemorated as a saint in the Anglican Church in 1980. I wonder why they became so impressed with her then after 600 years

Julian was a mystic; we see things differently. It is the trait, the “quality” as in “virtue” of the parenting we have from God that she is striving to describe. The utter totality of His love; for He is indeed all to us. She knew very well what she meant; but it is very hard to translate God into human language. In those terms God is indeed our total “parent”.
Maybe the way Jesus uses language sometimes too. As in sheeps and goats in Matthew 25. Someone explained that to me once that He is not saying sheep are better than goats. Simply that they have different needs so have to be separated. Sheep can stay outside; goats need shelter.
And of course this is not how the Episcopalians mean it. Yes there is a great " vogue" and fashion there in now for Julian. Not as a mystic, but in an academic way. So they take her very much at a surface level. ( I was involved with teaching and egroup on her work a while ago with mostly Episcopalians on it)
However many RC Orders now also speak of God as Mother. Not as Julian did but as feminists solely.
