Apokatastasis, or the final restoration of all (including demons) to God, is not a definitive doctrine in Orthodoxy. However, since a few Church Fathers did teach it (Gregory of Nyssa and Maximos the Confessor, specifically), the final restoration of all “is a valid possibility according to the [Orthodox] Church.”Scary, isn’t it? If our Jesus was not mercifull… Isn’t it the Orthodox who believe that even demons will have a chance to repent?
My understanding of the Catholic Church’s position on this, is that it is heterodox to theologically maintain that all will and must be saved in the end, while it is orthodox to humanly hope that all will be saved.
