Is there any way to ask the name of my guardian angel. I don’t feel comfortable naming my angel, and was wondering if there is any way I could be more respectful by knowing its name.

We are instructed NOT to take any part in this practice. We have no authority over the angels.
While we are instructed not to name our guardian angels, there is nothing prohibiting us from asking him what his name is. Having said that, mine has not answered me yet 😜

While it would be nice to know the names of our Guardian Angels, is it really necessary? I’m content just knowing that God has sent one of His Angels to watch over me.

There are other CDF documents which speak to the idea of asking angels for their names. It is also a no.

I pondered this question as well. It comes down to this:
According to the Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy, 216 (under the heading about Devotion to the Holy Angels):
“The practice of assigning names to the Holy Angels should be discouraged, except in the cases of Gabriel, Raphael and Michael whose names are contained in Holy Scripture”.

I was in second grade when I started to call my guardian angel “Angelica” I call my angel that to this day and will continue to do so…I in no way believe that I have “AUTHORITY” over my guardian and in no way do I disrespect the one chosen by God.to accompany me on my life journey… You are saying that you wish to ask your angel their name, I do not think they will respond, yet who knows As far as Mr. Marshall ,I never heard of him and I respectfully disagree. I do not think God is going to punish someone who as a child made it more personal between her and her Guardian and I do not think it would be wrong for you to give your guardian angel a name…;… God knows ones heart…God Bless l

It’s been discouraged because people can be led astray by demons posing or acting like their angel. Others say it’s disrespectful and arrogant to name a superior creature.

This group where the foundress had private revelations that revealed the alleged names of angels. If this the DCF told them not to follow or promote the practice, it is pretty safe to assume it applies to you and me.

Also, see above. Private revelations are something that can be dangerous. You could FEEL like it is an angel speaking to you when it is just your own imagination or something more diabolical.

Have you read Peter Kreeft’s book on Angels? It will help you get a clear grasp around our duty and devotion to angels.

They in fact do not come out and say it is wrong, they say it should be discouraged. The church says the same about cremation, yet we are still permitted as long as we follow certain “rules”… I am not a theologin and I. will defend my faith and my church without hesitation. I still believe that Jesus knew my heart as a child and knows it still. When I started calling my guardian angel by ANGELICA over thirty years ago it was before JOHN PAUL II came out with the decree… I will take this up with my priest and my Jesus…GOD BLESS YOU.

CCC 2301 states “The Church permits cremation, provided that it does not demonstrate a denial of faith in the resurrection of the body.” Notice that the word “discourages” is not in there anyplace.

The question may send you searching in dangerous places, be warned. There is a Guardian Angel Confraternity for those who appreciate them and would like to assist. Be focused on appreciating them, I know I do.

I think of those good times in life in the bad times and the people I had great times with are gone… What comforts me is that I had someone with me the whole time that knows my story. They are someone I can talk to about things in such a way that knows I also went to confession for certain failures. Many people don’t know your happiest times, memories, and how demons or demons inside of people try to hurt you with details of things you are already forgiven for.

Your guardian angel can help you see and sense the wrongs and laugh about the ignorance. They know your injuries, goals, and emotions even when you can’t express it. No doctrine really says all this, it’s through relationship building and faith that I feel as I do. Name or no name, its like Jesus talks about marriage in Heaven… names? Go beyond that.

The St Michael Chaplet is a great way to pray for the angels and our own guardian angel.

I am sure my guardian angel wants you all to know this. :angel:t3::angel:t3::angel:t3:
