I seriously need to apologize to, at the very least, to @gardenwithkids, about how kids with visible and invisible disabilities may behave.

I have been a bit naive to believe that most experiences has been similar to my son’s and his circle of friends. Now, I realize that I self-selected kids for him to be around based on how his disabilitiy presented itself. My son fixates on certain things (like airplanes) and talks too much about them. Also, he is very smart, so he often talks over the heads of his peers and adults. However, he is so passive, will not used foul language and is very pious. He loves going to church and goes to Confession every other week. This worst I can say is that–when blunt–he could easily offend people. He can come off aloof when he is scared, shy or both. He is a mini version of my husband.

However, he has been opening up to me and telling me different stories that convince me that–indeed–kids with either undiagnosed disabilities or even emotional difficulties that may not warrant a diagnosis–represent a large part of the population.

So, I have my work cut out, but I think I know where I need to go with this. I am going to spend time with the Lord in Adoration talking to him about my lecture. I am sure he can help me out here.

God bless,

Sandy

The USCCB just published something new on their webpage about working with children with disabilities. Maybe look into reading it for some more info for your presentation. 😉
