Hello, this is my first post on the forums. I have been a catholic for about 3 years now and have also been married about that long. My husband is a cradle catholic and we attend mass every week. We also have two very young children.

A few weeks ago, I came across something very disturbing - my husband had viewed something called “possessed porn”. It was videos of women who were “possessed” by Satan/demons and men having sex with them. I don’t know what to make of this. I confronted my husband about it, but he just clammed up and won’t talk to me about it.

It worries me because I don’t know if my husband is into demonic things and I certainly don’t want any kind of doors opened up to Satan and demons in my home. The fact that he is viewing porn is one issue (and he always says he will get help) but the evil possession is something that really disturbs me.

How can I get my husband to seek counseling or help with this and should I do something about this? I feel very creeped out and fearful that something strange will happen. I feel like I am not very certain of what my husband is into and I don’t know what actions I should take. My husband also has an older brother who is openly into the occult and satanism.

Yikes. That is scary stuff.

One thing I will say, is that depending on what exactly you found and how much of it, is the possibility that your husband did not specifically seek out this material, but stumbled across it while looking at other pornographic material (still not comforting at all, but at least without this seriously creepy dimension.) The way a lot of sites and services are set up is that the user is fed links upon links of stuff in the hope that something “sticks,” and a person may look out of a curiosity rather than a specific desire to see the material listed. Of course, your husband is probably too embarrassed by your discovery to say anything, so you don’t have any more information, but based on what’s in your post it may not be certain that your husband looks at this type of material due to a specific desire to see that material. The fact that your brother-in-law is into the occult may be important to this issue or it might not, though it’s not surprising you remembered that.

That being said, it’s still really, really problematic, and there’s an additional level that’s worrisome besides just that he is viewing pornography. I might consult your priest just to see what you might need to do to protect your home, yourself, and your children.

I’d also advise finding a counselor, preferably a good Catholic one (your priest might have recommendations) to figure out how to discuss this with your husband. Even if he thinks it’s private, any pornography use harms you and your marriage, and as such he does have a responsibility to find a way to stop regardless of the “type” of material. But there’s a big need to tread carefully here when you discuss it with him.

Wow! I don’t think I would be able to tolerate that. I don’t think there is anything you can do to force him to seek help, except maybe separation until he does. But if you go that route, you have to have a plan as to what you are going to do if he still refuses. Probably the best route is to speak to a priest and a marriage counselor. Porn is so evil and damaging to families. You have my prayers.

You go see your priest immediately and follow his direction to the letter.
This is too serious for internet advice.
God protect you, and deliver your husband from harm.

It’s weird that he’s into that type of fetish, however, many people watch scary movies. The Exorcist is a classic. The people really aren’t possessed, it is acting. I would seek marriage counseling for the porn problem, though. It wouldn’t hurt to talk about why he likes this particular kind of porn.

Pray.

Pray for your husband.

ST. Margaret of Cortona is the patron saint of sexual sin. Pray for her intercession.

I have had problems with pornography in my past. It is a horrible situation and he needs intercessory prayer.

He can only defeat this through divine intervention.

I will pray for you both.

Porn is a HUGE problem in society now and getting worse literally by the day. That your husband seems to have a fetish for “possession porn” is not unexpected. He’s probably been viewing porn for a very long time and has progressed through the various genres until he’s gotten to this fetish.

Seek the advice of your pastor. You’ve talked to your husband and his response is typical of the vast majority of porn addicts. Believe it or not, he really does WANT help; he’s just so far down that road of sin, that he might believe there’s no help for him. In short, he’s lost his faith in God. You can be the person that turns him around. Pray for him and for the protection of your family. God Bless you, faithful sister! :signofcross:

Maybe he clammed up because he’s embarrassed. It is hard to say. I somehow doubt that this porn is anything but the horror-flick sort, but that doesn’t mean that evil powers cannot make particularly evil use of it. It is always worse when evil comes in a glamorous guise.

I second the suggestion that you find real-time counsel on this, in the form of your pastor or another trusted spiritual advisor. In the meantime, try not to react in fear. Instead, discern with care how to choose to act out of prudent concern, trusting in God with the knowledge that you are in God’s hands.

If he is willing to get help as he says, then that would be a step in the right direction. Ask him to go to counseling. Since you’re both Catholic, Catholic Social Services has one with a religious slant. If he won’t go, then you might want to consider going alone, if nothing else, for support.

I believe everyone who responded here gave excellent advice. Inn addition, I would have my home blessed, wear a St. Benedict’s Crucix, hang a crucifix on the walls and use plenty of holy water. We are praying for you.

Yes, I’m torn on this as well. I love scary movies; however, I wouldn’t have a problem speaking about it if confronted. I think the bigger issue here is that when confronted, her husband didn’t want to discuss it, so I suspect it wasn’t an accident or a fluke.

I agree with the others about speaking to your priest ASAP - with or without your husband.

About your husband, I really don’t have anything to say now. He did look at porn, and that is never a good thing. What you need to do now is see if he is serious about getting help for himself. I truly wish him the best.

But, if he hesitates at all, you must plan an ‘escape route’ for yourself and your children. I’m Not talking about filing for divorce…although you may decide to do that later. I’m speaking about being able to get to a safe place for you and your kids as soon as ( preferably before) he tries to involve you in his sick games, tries to isolate you, or( in my mind, this is the final straw) , physically abuses you or ANY of the children!

So, make sure you have a friend, relative, or social agency you can go to at short notice. It is what you must do, to prevent future tragedy. Don’t be ‘guilted’ into staying because ‘marriage is forever’ or ‘a good Catholic wife would stay with her husband’. Staying with him is a form of tacit approval!

I know that this is early in the game, all may work itself out, and your husband may become as disgusted with these images as you are. Don’t underestimate the power of prayer. But, if he is determined to make pornography a part of his life, don’t let him make it a part of yours-or your children’s’. Pray for the best, but prepare for the worst.

I’ll be praying for you. And I’m sure many more here will. God bless you in this difficult time.

When you think you’ve heard everything. wow…“possession porn”.
I would say to the OP talk to your religious advisor, this is serious stuff.

As some others above have suggested, I would also recommend you speak to your Priest ASAP for advice and follow it right away. Just the porn viewing alone is very harmful to him and your marriage, but the satanic twist added is even worse and is nothing to ignore. My prayers are with you. You and any other women reading this going through similar experiences may wish to join the support group here at CAF titled “Women Suffering Because of Unchastity.” It deals with the sad and lasting effects that porn viewing by husbands has on wives and their marriages and has helped me tremendously in my marriage. May Our Blessed Mother and St. Monica help intercede for you.
