While talking to a priest is the right decision, you have no right to tell another person that they will "go to hell." There are extreme circumstances that have happened here to influence her decision. Only God knows someone else’s destiny…
I agree with you, only God knows our final destiny, but she did ask about the hell part. I was trying to answer her questions/concerns. I usually do not like to post in these types of threads, because they are very sensitive in nature & things can come out the wrong way…:o

A lot of people are not aware that if they commit a mortal sin that hell is the consequence, until confession takes place. They think they can wait to confess during Lent/Easter (once a year). When we commit a mortal sin we separate ourselves from God. A lot of people do not know this. I have friends who think they can miss Sunday Mass and its Ok.
I know people who are now in the Church, and this was NOT explained to them during RCIA.
I agree that this situation is very delicate. And I am sorry if it came out wrong, it was not meant to. I feel really bad for her. I hope & pray that she is ok & can recover from this.
Thank you for your correction. I was just trying to answer her questions. No harm was meant. Peace.

Go to confession. They priest will be kind. If you are nervous, go to confession behind the screen.

Please note: the priest may not be able to absolve you at your first confession. Only certain priests are given the ability for forgive abortion and lift the excommunication associated with it. If the priest can’t absolve you, he will bring in another priest or Bishop to take your confession (or send you to him). This scheduling too can be done behind the screen, if you still don’t want your priest to know who you are.

But I think its important to trust your pastor. Unless he’s given you reason to think he’s judgmental, you should assume that he is not and that he only cares about you and your soul.

So please attend confession with your pastor and then listen to him. Again, you can do it behind the screen so he doesn’t see your face (if you don’t want him too).

The priest will not judge you and the seal of confession will protect you.

When I attended confession for the first time in over 20 years, I cried. I too used to be afraid of confession.

But today, I love to go (though I still prefer going behind the screen). I now go to confession (on average) every two weeks, sometimes more or less.

May The Lord forgive you and lead your husband to repent. And may The Lord help you to find peace.
Beautiful post!

Please do not be afraid to go to Confession. While you have committed a grave sin, God is ready and willing to forgive you when/if you go and make a good Confession. Please do everything that the priest instructs you to do.

I will pray for you.

The problem with your last line is, that she has 5 children, far away from home & married to a very powerful, rich man who knows his way around the system. It is his turf…If he is dangerous, she might not be able to get away with her 5 children 😦 . I feel so bad for her.

:highprayer:
I see no problem with my last line. If all the OP said was true, my goal would be to take my children and get out. That would direct my every thought, every motion. It would be on my mind, every waking moment. My life would be consumed with getting out. All of my prayers would go toward that end. All of my strength would be working toward that. All I would think about is, what will happen next time?

Why wouldn’t you? Why would you stay? If all that the OP said was true, this many has no problem killing an innocent baby. Has no problem forcing his wife to take unknown medication. I don’t understand why someone would stay in that situation.

I am sorry if my wording did not come out right :o. I guess it seems a bit hard to do, having the 5 children and all. Being on HIS turf. And she recently had her last child, so it seems like a lot at the moment…

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us so that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your Holy Will, which is love and mercy itself. Amen.

I feel that you have been through a tragic episode in your life and have faced a terrible moral dilemma. Like others here, I will pray for you tonight.

On the one hand, your husband is your head and you must obey him. On the other, knowingly ending the life of a newborn inside your body is murder. There’s also the consideration that your husband, however wrongly, may have acted out of concern for you, given what happened to you last time you have birth, and the fact that, had you carried this baby, it was God’s decision whether or not to take your life, not your husband’s to do that to your child.

I hope you can talk with your husband to make him see that what he did was wrong, and that you can find a way to forgive him, if only for your other children - they deserve a father in their lives. Divorce is not acceptable, marriage is for life, so the sooner the two of you can resolve this, the better.

I’m sorry this had to happen. I’ll pray for you and everyone in this situation. :gopray:

The consistent advice on here to see a priest is what you’ll have to do. I don’t think anyone can do that with you on here.

It’s important to know that God’s mercy is infinite and not based on we feel. :yup:

Kindness has the core of truth in its heart, otherwise it is false and useless. I feel most deeply for this poor woman and her feelings at this moment do count. She needs no posts to tell her her faults, she is only to well aware of them and is grieving for her lost baby. We all know this. If my words were unkind that was not my intention. I feel deeply for herand only wish to push her to confession for her own sake. The sooner she knows Jesus has forgiven her, the quicker she will forgive herself. She is not sugar coating the truth. Charity should be true to itself.
Be very careful, because half of the truth can be worse than none at all. There are three elements necessary for a mortal sin: mortal seriousness in the act, an appreciation that the act is gravely wrong, and full cooperation of the will to choose the act. If you are forced to do something, the sin is only yours to the extent that you chose freely to do it. If you were compelled, then the sin belongs to the person who compelled you, not to you.

If a person is truly compelled to commit an act, the sin is imputed to the person who forced them. Even if they were not fully compelled, the element of force that interferes with the will lessens culpability.

***Can. 1323 **The following are not subject to a penalty when they have violated a law or precept:

4/ a person who acted coerced by grave fear, even if only relatively grave, or due to necessity or grave inconvenience unless the act is intrinsically evil or tends to the harm of souls;

7/ a person who without negligence thought that one of the circumstances mentioned in nn. 4 or 5 was present.*

This woman would not have procured an abortion for herself in a million years. She should not be berated for giving in to the threat of being divorced, put out of her home to raise her child alone, and taken away from her other children. That is beyond the pale. She might have said, “no,” this is true, and yes she ought to have said, “no,” but that would have been a truly heroic resistance to evil on her part. Honestly, if she had let her husband force her to take those pills and put me over a 200 foot cliff because saving her would have cost her her her children, I would be disappointed in her, at worst.** I be blaming her husband 100%, not her.**

Yes, she should see a confessor, because it will take a priest to convince her how much she was driven to do what she did, and to absolve whatever part she had in it (which neither you nor I can know).

I would also suggest she ask around her diocese to see if they have something like a Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat. In the US, these are weekends in which women who have had an abortion–some because of pressure from others, but others of their own volition–go in order to receive whatever absolution is needed but also to help work through the feelings of anger at those who pushed them to do it and grief over the child they lost. Her other children need for her to cope with this as best as she can, so she can attend to them instead of getting so wrapped up in her private grief that she cannot mother them.

She ought to get help from her confessor, too, to figure out how to convince her husband to repent and seek absolution for what he did to his wife and children. Unless he was also compelled in some way (hard to imagine, but not impossible), then his sin was very grave. He ought not receive any of the Sacraments, until he receives absolution, and he ought to seek that without delay, lest he die with this offense held tightly and willfully in his heart.

Go and see a priest about your soul. One in a different parish, one your husband does not know.

Get away from your husband, at least for a time. What he did was abusive and it was murder. Go home and see family, start the healing process. Decide whether you want to stay with your controlling husband or not. Then act on it.

If he tells you that he saved your life, ask him why he bedded you again if the result could kill you. There should have been no reason to do what he did.

I understand the doing whatever your husband tells you to. It’s sometimes very hard to stand up for yourself against a controlling, powerful man especially if he is your husband. You were coerced. You were forced. Now is the time to worry about your other children and yourself.

The best option for a woman who married into a powerful Brazilian family is not the same as a woman who lives somewhere else or who is in other circumstances. She needs to get advice locally about what her best options are.

I’m surprised he could get Misoprostol over the counter. Especially in Brazil. A normal dose for an abortion is 3 pills on day one, plus additional pills on day 3. Certainly for your health, you need to see a doctor. If for no other reason than to find out what your husband gave you. But to also make sure that you have completely passed the baby. Although that might have sounded harsh, if you have not passed the baby completely, you could have an infection. Untreated infections can kill you. You need to go see a priest as well. In Confession, you need to tell him the whole story. I’m sorry, I have no idea what you are saying here. Is your mother involved in this somehow?
Talk to a priest. He will not throw you out of the Church. In fact, he might be able to help you. And he can certainly hear your Confession.

I’m not sure how you can love your husband right now. He could have killed you. No doctor or pharmacist should hand out Misoprostol like that. And no husband should force his wife to do anything. If I were you, I would worry about my safety. I would worry what else he might do.

Straight up and honestly? I think there is something fishy about this story. Brazil has very strict rules about abortion. I find it very hard to believe that a man can simply walk into a store and buy abortion drugs. It wouldn’t matter how rich he is. Any doctor or pharmacist would lose their job and their freedom by giving the drug out. 🤷

But if this is true, I would find a way out of that house and away from that man.
Yeah i live in latin america misoprostolmis legal over the counter and if you google misprostol abortion websites give you the dosage its sad how easy the world makes something so terrible and dangerous

For instance just to see i went and asjed for a box of misoprostol the phamacy was willing to sell them at a high price no questions asked its an anti ulcer and arthritis drug in mexico not sire how its used in brazil but op mentioned her husband has a wealthy family so yeah i believe her wholeheartedly and i think her husband is a monster he could have overdosed her OP cannot go to a doctor and tell what happened she could be arrested OP i am praying hard for you. Brazil has very strict rules about abortion. Strict enough that dispensing this drug could land the pharmacist in jail.

If she could go to jail, I wonder what the penalty would be for her husband, since he is the one that supposedly obtained the drug.

I am so sorry for your situation. It is obvious you are sorry and were coerced to some degree. My concerns are for the health of your mind, your soul, and your body. You are still trapped in a situation where this could happen again.

Your husband, God save him, doesn’t appear to have the sense of error, loss, and sorrow that you have. Your children could be used as pawns if you can’t get them out with you. They could be forced if one of your daughters got pregnant one day. Your sons may learn that this is an acceptable way to treat women. Your daughters may learn that this is an acceptable way to be treated. Children have a way of sensing these things.

You need help getting you and your kids away from such an abusive person. You need some very trustworthy help.

You need to find a doctor who will do a checkup. You mustn’t allow yourself to stay sick. That would be another death and you and your family do NOT need another death.

I know that you feel the gravity of the abortion but I’m not sure you are able to see the greater problems that you hold in your hands. It must seem overwhelming to think about but I think the beginning of your salvation will stem from steering yourself and your children, (maybe even your husband but he sounds very dark and lost in his perceived power) away from a family where people are forced to do awful things against their will. Take very strong, discreet, and careful steps to get medical help, spiritual counsel and then to safely get yourself and your children out of the country and to safety.

I am sure you will be in the prayers of many of us who have read your post.

I’m surprised he could get Misoprostol over the counter. Especially in Brazil.
Incidentally I happened to listen to an article yesterday that showed how there is a network of distribution opening all over the world to fill the unavailability of these procedures. They network even provides people with information on how to lower their chances of getting caught. And it included a plan for a boat that would take people out in international waters to get procedures done outside of the jurisdiction of any nation (I think there may have been some indirect measures to shut down the boat).

Hi. The next thing to do is to go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Sorrow at the sin is best taken to God as a confession a.s.a.p. Not to go on forums. And then take the priest’s advice from there.

There is a baptismal prayer for the unborn which you can pray. You could ask the priest about this afterwards.

May God bless you and give you courage.

Yes, Brazil is very different to Canada. That’s why I suggested she go to a parish outside of her husbands influence.
She is also far away from her people and she grew up with different ideas than her husband did. Reconnection with her family could be healing. And seeing a priest at home might help also.
Seems to me the problem is her guilt. She has none, since she was forced. She should see a priest to help her overcome her feelings of guilt and her fear that she is damned.

The OP has no guilt. What happened was not her fault, and she had choice but to comply. God understands, I’m sure.
You are in my prayers.

God forgives everything if you are truly repentant. You need to talk to a priest and confess as quickly as possible to help God heal your soul. As others have said, the first priest you talk to may not be able to forgive your sin, but should direct you to one who can. Your child is probably in heaven with God, as an innocent.

As for your husband, he really needs to repent. I am afraid you may not be able to continue living with your husband if he does not repent and insists on controlling you in this way. This is grounds for a divorce and an annulment.

I am very sorry about your situation. I will include you in my prayer today.
