My husband officially converted!

Hi everyone!

Well, my husband finally converted officially a week and a half ago. We got married 7 years ago, and out of the blue after Mass one day several months ago, he said he wanted to actually become Catholic!

A week and a half ago he took his first Eucharist. šŸ™‚

If you can stop for a minute and just say Thank you God for me, I would appreciate it.

Woo hoo, Iā€™m so glad my husband finally came ā€œhomeā€. šŸ™‚

I am glad to hear this, but I have a couple questions. How did he just convert in a few months and then receive the Eucharist? I have been in RCIA and we cannot receive it until Saturday at Easter Vigil. I wish you the best, just wondering.
 
Awesome!!! I was confused about the timeline too, was he a revert? It is so exciting to hear of someone converting, especially someone whose other half is already Catholic! šŸ™‚
 
RCIA has become a ā€œcatch allā€ for everyone entering the Church. The RCIA program is supposed to be for the unbaptized. For someone converting from another faith, it is possible to come into the Church in a shorter time. Usually done with one on one instruction from a priest (but this isnā€™t as common anymore due to priest shortages and/or time commitments). If he felt you were ready, then you could be confirmed. Only the unbaptized HAVE to come in at the Easter Vigil (I assume there may be some exceptions in extreme circumstances, death maybe?). Just some general statements. Iā€™m sure someone more experienced could explain further if needed.

And made his First Confession before that, and got Confirmed, as well, I assume. Congratulations!! šŸ™‚
 
Wow, the Spanish Iniquisition haha.

Our church has the RCIA program for both Baptised and un-Baptised participants. There were only 3 that were Baptised and 4 that werenā€™t so it made sense to just have one class. For those that are Baptised, they still need the classes because to truly be a Catholic, then you need to truly know what that represents, and frankly, agree with it. Otherwise, whats the point?

The classes started last fall, and went every week.

Our church has it that those who were Baptised (in this case, my husband had been Baptised in the Catholic Church, but was raised Lutheran after that by his parents) are received into the Church and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and of the Eucharist two weeks before Easter, and then those who are un-Baptised are received on Easter.

I hope this answers the formality questions of what transpired, when and why.

Will your husband be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation? :confused: (Usually it is before First Holy Communion, for adults.)

This is supposed to be a joyous moment, where we welcome someone into the Catholic Church, and welcome them home.

All I have heard are questions as to whether or not it was done technically correctly? Frankly its a bit annoying.

To answer your question, yes, he did receive the Sacrament of Confirmation before the Eucharist.

Please let me know if there are any other technicalities I need to clear up to ā€œproveā€ that he did, in fact, go through the Sacramental process correctly to be received by a Holy Priest into the Catholic Faith.

Perhaps I should transcribe his confession, or attach a video file of each of his classes to see if you all approve of what he was taught, or even give you the Priests phone number to call to see if he performed the Sacraments correctly.

I was just asking for you to give a moment of thanksgiving to God, nothing more.

I waited for ten years to write this post.

Thanks for sucking the joy out of it for me.

My apologies. I am a little high-strung today because of things going on at work.

Yea! Sharing your JOY! My husband will be baptized this Sat night. And I will be confirmed.
However I am a baptized Catholic that fell away & Iā€™m coming into ā€œfull communionā€. Meaning I will be confirmed but I already receive communion every Sun. Fr said only those not baptized would wait until the Easter Vigil.
I went through RCIA as my husbandā€™s sponser and it was a good thing and we met lots of people who were also new to our parish and we have formed friendships with these other new people and so donā€™t feel out of place. We have folks to say Hi! to as we come & go.
(Not to mention we learned a whole lot!!)
Looking forward to the Easter Vigil. And thanking our dear Lord for your husbandā€™s decision! And my husbandā€™s decision, too!šŸ™‚

Thank you for those kind words, and all of the JOY that the other posts have.

I did seriously wait a decade for this to happen, and when it finally did, I was so excited to finally post on here. It was just hard to hear such immediate unwarranted scrutiny for such a joyous event.
 
Congratulations! It is a wonderful thing when a spouse joins the other in the Church. My MIL has been a devout Catholic all her life, married FIL (who was agnostic, not raised in any church), and it only took 40 years of marriage and constant prayer on MILā€™s part before he was baptized, confirmed, and received into the Churchā€“10 years ago this month. šŸ˜ƒ

Thank you everyone who has such a positive response. It really warms my heart.

The first few people who responded were quite abrasive and scrutinized my post, for whatever reason, and that really sucked the joy out of my ability to finally write this.

Thank you thank you for your heartfelt joy! Its a good day, and has been really great. I really hope that God continues to work in our life and our marriage.
