OK, thanks for the extra information.

Sometimes it is difficult, when reading, to follow all the twists and turns in a story and keep

I will admit I’m still confused as to the point of your thread. )
:o I guess the point of the thread and the post comes down to this:
  1. My husband (who is one of the few practicing Catholics left in his family of origin) chooses to pray for the soul of his cousin and has compassion for the woundedness and fallen nature of his cousin. He HATES the SIN but still LOVES the SINNER.
  2. My husband does not condone pedophilia.
  3. How can a family, ostensibly raised in the Catholic church, lack compassion to such a degree that they will not even pray for a relative? What does that say about their faith?
    Not much IMHO.

I am glad your husband has that kind of heart and faith. But I am sorry your attitude for others is so judgmental. Don’t you see the hypocrisy of condemning those who you THINK have little faith and talking about how great it is to pray for someone who did something horrendous. As if that makes your husband better than his family. Why such a harsh and condemning judgement on those who have done nothing except maybe be so disgusted by the horrid nature of the cousin that they cannot pray for it. And I also think you have no idea what their prayers are in their most intimate encounter with God.
So, odd that the relatives get the condemnation from you and your husband but the child sexual abuser does not… Perhaps your husband should spare some prayers for his relatives who may be more hurt by the cousins actions and conviction than he will ever know.
You are judging an entire group of people’s faith. Remember, you will be judged by the standard you judge. And while they may stand before Jesus and be asked why they did not pray for a child abuser and pedophile, you and your husband will be asked why you cared more for the abuser than those who for whatever reason cannot pray for him.

Why is it that your husband cares more for the cousin now, and loves the sinner now more than when there was little contact? Why is pedophilia a reason to reach out. When the cousin was not a known pedophile was your husband praying for him?

Is the point of the thread that your husband prays for a pedophile and wants to reach out to him but the rest of the family does not want to have a larger role in the pedophile’s life than they did before? I am so confused by the point of the thread. But now it appears as if the point is that you want to show how Holy your husband is in relations to the rest of the family.

Can you clarify things please. Are you comfortable with your husband contacting a pedophile while you have children or grandchildren?

I have to comment on this. I have full custody of my niece. We are about to go to trail against someone who sexually abused her. My niece is 10 years old and this abuse has ruined her life in so many ways I can’t begin to describe it. SO there is no way on this earth I would let anyone in my family knowingly go near anyone who is a registered sex offender.

Despite what the media says, being a registered sex offender is not a willy nilly thing. If they are a registered sex offender, this means they have had a trial in front of a judge - most of the time in front of a jury - and they were found guilty. OR the offender pled guilty. OR they pled guilty to a lesser charge than what they really did for whatever reason. Usually the latter happens because the child is so young that it’s too hard on them to testify in court.

So I have very personal experience with this and I don’t care how old they are or how sorry everyone feels for htem there is NO WAY THAT PERSON WOULD EVER COME NEAR MY FAMILY!!!
