…“by the hand of Brother Simon 198x”.

You know what that means. Monastery Icons. -_- By the Old Catholic/Gnostic Orthodox/Hindoos under Abbot George Burke/Swami Nirmalananda Giri.

I tried to tell a portly older member of the community this, and that those things are dangerous. He’d said they’d done business with them for years, until they moved out of Schuyler, NE. (Pronounced “Skyler” fyi.) I don’t think he believed me.

I tried not to let it ruin the Divine Liturgy for me today (the Baptism of the Lord for our Eastern brothers, correct?). And the old mischiefmaker didn’t spoil my day at the Ukrainian church. (He helped to spoil it later, but never mind that.)

What can be done about it? I am not native to the parish, and only visit once in a while.

Privately speak with the parish priest and refer to the numerous abundant sources citing the shadiness of “Monastery Icons,” many of which can be found by searching this forum alone.

God Bless

If it’s been blessed, I wouldn’t worry too much. The power of Christ supercedes any nonsense.

I know, and that’s how I got through the Liturgy. Just block out any distracting influences.

Still, if they are still cursed (I don’t know if they are or no), they’re not helping anyone else.

I’ll collect some sources and present it to him next week.

I’m guessing that the odds that these have not been blessed are slim to none. Having been blessed, probably numerous times, you really have nothing to worry about. But you may, for your own peace of mind, want to ask the priest if they have been.

I used to attend a parish that had Monastery Icons icons on the iconostasis. Never a problem. They had been blessed multiple times over the years.

You may also want to take a donation for new ikons since you don’t attend there regularly.

They probably got what they could afford and may consider replacing them when funds become available.

I would agree. The real damage is the financial support of their nonsense by purchasing the icons in the first place.

There is nothing innate to them in the way of evil that has not already been expelled.

Wait, what’s evil about monastery icons? Sorry, about how oblivious i am.

The group that owns and runs Monastery Icons also owns and runs a Hindu monastery. Nothing against our Hindu brothers and sisters, but this particular group has been very deceptive in that they hide the fact that Monastery Icons is affiliated with the Hindu monastery; most Christians would be more than a little uncomfortable buying icons from a group that is involved with Hindu spirituality. They give the impression that they are traditional Christians of some sort, while at the same time they promote a form of spirituality that is contrary to Christian teaching. Again, I’m not trying to bash Hindus, I’m just pointing out that it’s not right for this particular group to try to pass themselves off as a Christian monastery and then promote beliefs that most Christians would not at all be comfortable with, just like it wouldn’t be right for me to start up a company that sells Hindu devotional art, then go around teaching monotheism and telling people to eat meat.

If anyone wants sources for all of this stuff, Aquinas and More Catholic Gifts has a great article on their blog with sources:catholicinformation.aquinasandmore.com/2009/09/21/beware-of-monastery-icons/ Of particular interest is the archived web pages that show that Monastery Icons and its parent company, Sacred Arts Foundation, have had the exact same mailing address, at the same time, as a Hindu monastery in Borrego Springs, California

What are monastary icons?
Monastery Icons (note the capital Letters) is a company selling mounted icon-prints. The company is run by a group of heretic monastics wh worship using some syncretic hindu-byzantine mix.

Woah! What are the signs of hinduism in the icons?

I think everyone’s local UGCC Church has Monastery Icons, at least in the USA…what can you do? Back in the day they seemed like a reputable outfit to people.
