My Mom had a stroke. Do I have to go to mass today?

I am a minor, and my mother is my sole guardian. Yesterday (well, technically, the day before yesterday), she had a major stroke and did not recieve medical attention for several hours. She is the only Catholic in my immediate or extended family, I’ve already pretty much overslept, I don’t know the phone numbers of any other Catholics, and I don’t think the Lutherans I’m staying with are planning to go to church at all today, much less a Catholic Mass. Also I understandably feel kind of awful and don’t want to get out of bed.

Am I allowed to skip in this situation? Because I have absolutely no idea how to get to mass at this point. 😦
 
Of course you’re allowed to skip it… Stay home. Pray for your mom.
 
I’m so sorry about your mother- you are too young to have to deal with something like that, but of course, people younger than you have had to deal with worse.

Be strong, friend. Be there for your mother, and be glad for the health that she does still have. Medical science has become very efficient at helping people recover from strokes.

This too shall pass!

Thank you. I just wish we had gotten help sooner. 😦 Somehow, though, God will pull us through it.

Heh. I have a friend who likes to say “If He brings you to it, He’ll bring you through it.” 🙂
 
Bingo. My mother had a minor stroke not too long ago from drinking too much… every night… She didn’t change afterward, and it’s tough.

We cannot control what happens to us all the time, but we can control our reactions to it.

No, we are dispensed from Mass in cases of ill health or extreme emergency, which includes no reasonable way of getting to Mass.

Try to get some sleep and a decent meal, and later today, pray a rosary for your mother. I will remember her in my prayers this evening.

My mum passed away due to complications from being an alcoholic and had cirrohosis of the liver cuz of it . But it was too late even tho she had quit drinking during her last 2 years of her life on earth. It is tough. For those who still have their mothers, be lucky they are still around. Cherish every moment you have with her. Cuz I didn’t. It wasn’t til the last year that I became close to her and we would msn each other every day even tho we lived next door to each other. lol. 🤷
 
Be sure to call your parish office to let them know that your mother is in the hospital so a priest can visit.

She had a really bad headache today. Probably the worst Mother’s day she’s ever had. 😦
 
Mother Mary, please relieve the suffering of this mother. We pray that you will approach the throne of your son Jesus and bring our prayers for the relief of this mother and her family. On this Ascension Day, please hear our prayers Jesus and help this woman. Give peace to her family, heal her and give her all her faculties again. All saints in heaven, come to her aid!

If she gets a bad headache, call her doctor for further instructions. Don’t assume it’s just a headache. I hate to scare you, but it could be another stroke in the making.

And yes, contact her parish so that she can be visited.

aw man Karmaduck. I’m sorry to hear that. 😦 I’ll be praying for you!! One of my immediate family members was just having health problems last week too. that must be really stressful. I hope things get better soon! is she feeling ok??

The doctors were with her the entire time, they’re the ones who told us. Our priest came to see her today, so he definitely knows. 🙂
