I would pretty much disregard her wishes. Sorry but she’s a Catholic, and we don’t spread ashes. It has to do with respect for the physical body, even after death. I wouldn’t make a big deal of it, but I wouldn’t scatter nor would I allow her ashes to be split.
My husband and I were talking and he indicated several places that were important to him, that he’d want his ashes distributed. I told him, probably not going to be possible but that we can find other ways to memorialize those places, such as planting a tree there, or burying a possession of his on the spot. His ashes, should I cremate him (assuming I outlive him!) will be interred. I already have my plot, next to my mom, and up to 5 urns can be buried there, so whoever wants to use it after me, is more than welcome. I’ll sub-let it.
