Most of my family has either blonde hair, there are a few redheads, and blue eyes. There are only 3 that don’t, and they’re my cousins’ kids. One of my cousins married a Hispanic man and the other married an Asian girl, that “sickens” my mom, because I guess they won’t carry on the “tradition” of being blonde and pasty white? Well, anyway, I’ve been with my girlfriend for about 3 months, and my mom refuses to show her any respect, because she’s Greek(dark hair, eyes, olive skin) and the thing is she’s basically everything my mom wanted me to have, she’s nice, decent, a devout Christian, but my mom refuses to see any of that, because she doesn’t look like my mom wants her to. It really upsets my girlfriend…advice?

Praying for your mother’s change of heart.

It’s your mother’s issue and shouldn’t become yours.
Keep telling your girlfriend you think she is beautiful just as she is.
If your mother loves you she should respect your choice.
“Mom I won’t change who I love and intend to marry just because you don’t like her coloring. I love her and I intend to marry her. I want you to accept her because I love her.”

If you like the greek girl then dont let your mothers prejudice stop you being with her…😃

Ask your mother if she realises Jesus, Mary,Joseph and the apostles etc werent white with blond hair and blue eyes…they were from israel and at that part of the world folk usually have dark hair , tanned skin and brown eyes.😉

Your mother really needs to grow up and snap out of it…its disgusting to treat anybody differently or look down on them just because of eye, hair or skin colour:mad:

It’s not clear that the op is ready to marry a woman he’s only been dating for 3 months. But moms problem is bigger than that. She should be thinking that anyone with brown hair or eyes is not acceptable whether that person is a friend or potential spouse.

OP, I hope you aren’t telling your girlfriend about your mothers prejudices. If she acs normally around her, your conversations with mom should be private. If she’s rude when you are all together and makes remarks about hair or skin color, than you need to tell her right then that her conversation is unacceptable. And get up and leave.

I really think these things tend to become a problem for a couple when the ‘disapproved’ half of the pair doesn’t feel supported by the son/daughter of the disapproving.

If she has your constant support and reassurance that you disagree with this, I hope in time, that will help her.

In the meantime, keep praying for your mother’s change of heart.
