So, my mom took me to a great Italian dinner yesterday for my birthday. While we were talking, we got onto the subject of dating. I told my mom that I am only rather half-heartedly interested in meeting women right now. She said, well for goodness sake, get married before you retire!"

You see, nearly every weekday, my Mom goes to one of two senior centers near where we live for lunch. She has made a few friends there. Occasionally she will join in the activities there.

Anyway, continuing our conversation, I responded to my mom, “Why before I retire?”

She replied, “Nine out of ten of the people at the senior centers are women. And they are predatory when it comes to men.” (emphasis hers). I just laughed and laughed.

But I have noticed that at my age, there are a good deal more single women than men. I have been to a couple of Catholic singles events, but generally, they are for younger people, not middle-aged fogies like me. But even then, the ratio seems to be about 5:3, or even 2:1, women to men. I have also met a few “predatory” women in the last couple of years. The results were not good.

Can’t people just be happy with themselves, man or woman? I mean, I do not want to meet a woman who desperately wants a man. For the same reason, I think if I desperately wanted to meet a woman, I would be a poor candidate for any woman.

If I had it to do all over again I probably would live alone on top of a mountain or in a cave.I believe I was intended to be a part-time hermit. That’s not how this life turned out for me… should my husband pass on before me then don’t nobody be lookin’ for me at the retirement home…:dancing:

And to answer your question Yeh,agreed, desperate people probably think a mate would make life complete, when what they really need is the Shel Silverstein book"Are You My Missing Piece?"
