My Muslim friend says this about abortion “But if abortion is legalized then not everybody will be happy. Our country (USA) that we live in has people with many different religions and some of them maybe don’t believe abortion to be evil.” Then we talked about Obama and my Muslim friend said that he is getting a Nobel Piece prize. I said that Obama doesn’t deserve it because a REAL peacemaker would not be pro abortion. Then my muslim friend said “But if Obama becomes anti abortion and gets it illegalized then people might go against him. Obama is just trying to make everybody happy”.

My friend just doesn't realize his own dishonesty. :( He also said to me this "What is a girl gets raped"?

What do you all think of this?

If a woman is raped, then having an abortion kills the child. Does that sound fair to your Muslim friend? If he knows that abortion takes the life of a human, then why is murder the answer to an already horrible situation?

To make abortion legal or illegal has nothing to do with making people happy. The law should be based on what is right. Talk with him about what is right, according to the natural law.

And point out his inconsistency regarding “not everyone will be happy.” In any law, you’re going to make somebody unhappy. So what?

I have heard some say this. “What if the girls hips are not big enough because she’s too young.” What do you think?

killing babies makes people happy?

Islam is largely an anti abortion religion.

I think the real argument here is that people will have abortions anyway. The problem with this, of course, is that making abortion illegal will undoubtedly reduce the number of abortions–people on the verge of getting abortions will simply not get them if it involves the danger of a underground “clinic.” Further, by making something legal or illegal, we change , to some extent, people’s underlying understanding of morality.

Then the right thing to do is to try and save the baby and the young mother. You don’t purposely kill an innocent person just to reduce the potential harm to another!

Abortion being illegal is a noble goal, but not the key issue here.

We must first ensure that everyone knows the facts, not the lies! They must know the scientific fact that a human life begins at the moment of conception & the fact that abortion is never acceptable & is always a grave evil!!

Everything Hitler did in Germany was legal under German law, but often totally evil & immoral!

If we changed the hearts of those who support abortion, then no one would use this ‘legal’ procedure.

We have made great progress, but there is still a long way to go.

Remember, Jesus told us;** "And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’ " (Mt 25:40) **

**An innocent baby is the definition of “these least of my brethren!”
**

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

True, Mark, but Cameron also made a good point: “By making something legal or illegal, we change , to some extent, people’s underlying understanding of morality.”

So we should try to change the hearts of all citizens, but we cannot delay in changing the law, either.

There is not any situation which justifies abortion, i.e. the murder of an unborn child.

Yep. In such a case a C-Section would probably be the best idea.

I am no good with medical terms so please bare with me. What if a woman gets pregant but the vertilized egg gets stuck in the fallopian tube?

I am very, very much pro life but what about a situation like this where mother and child both will die. Is it ok then to kill the unborn to save the mother? It’s still death of an innocent if life begings at conception, which I believe it does.

To me this is a tough one. I don;t think a woman should die if this happens but at the same time it deeply troubles me about the unborns fate. It’s like a no win situation.

This is called an ectopic pregnancy, and as mentioned in previous posts, the ethical thing to do is to always try and save both lives. In this case it really isn’t possible. So the doctor can at least save the mother’s life by removing that section of the fallopian tube. The baby will die, but it is an unintended result.

This is the Catholic principle called “double effect.” We must NEVER directly do something such as take a baby’s life. But this is indirectly taking the baby’s life in the process of saving the mother from a medical emergency. From the newadvent.com article on abortion:
“If medical treatment or surgical operation, necessary to save a mother’s life, is applied to her organism (though the child’s death would, or at least might, follow as a regretted but unavoidable consequence), it should not be maintained that the fetal life is thereby directly attacked.”

This is indeed a difficult problem, but Catholic theologians and moralists have wrestled with it and reasoned as above.

For more info, do a Google search on the words “Catholic double effect.”
