Hello,
Although I attended four Catholic schools and prepared for confirmation, for other reasons it never happened although my younger sister was confirmed. Years later, my wedding banns were not read in the church because I was entering a mixed marriage and therefore my banns were read in an Anglican church.
For a long time I have wanted to return and continue my association as a catholic, and after my father died I discussed this with his local priest who indicated that this was not possible unless I started from the begining.
Not knowing where to start exactly, or being aware of this forum, I continued as before but visiting a church in another area once a week to pray.
Last week, having finished my prayers, I asked the father if I could have a word with him hoping for some guidance. He discreetly asked about my past and present life and said that the most important thing was to have been baptised a catholic and be penitent. He added that although I did not know if or where I had been baptised he felt sure that I would have been because of the influence of my mother and grandmother.
He then heard my confession and gave me absolution with a penance. I left the church feeling elated, but with a small doubt concerning my baptism record. Through the web I searched and found schools and churches that I attended as a boy and confirmation of my baptism.
So, I shall continue my new begining which I should have started many years ago. I sincerely hope that this, my first post on joining today may in some way be of help to any one in a similar situation.
