I admire your dedication to searching out the truth, and encourage you to continue your study of these issues. The books recommended above will certainly aid you in your investigation. Thanks to all. I will definitely investigate, although I still have my doubts about evolution.
Actually, the scientific concept of Darwinism, since it is a scientific (and not a theological) concept, cannot say anything whatsoever concerning whether God was or was not involved in the process. Things like gods and supernatural causes are simply beyond the proper scope of scientific inquiry, and so one must turn to religion for such realities. Hence, the idea of “evolution with God involved in the process” is essentially a theological conviction (known by faith, Heb. 11:3), and not a scientific conclusion.I read somewhere where there is a distinction between Darwinism (no God involvement) vs. evolution with God involved in the process.

On the contrary:…and there is no proof yet.
The Church has had much to say about certain atheistic scientists (Richard Dawkins, for example) who have attempted to promote their atheism as though it were “science.” However, this is not pronouncing upon science, but rather upon philosophy masquerading as science. Indeed, the Church is equipped to make definitive statements on matters of faith and morals, but not properly on matters of science, which is why, as you point out, the Church has made (and will make) no such pronouncement. And the Church has not come out with a definitive position on it, one way or the other.
