One of the psychology courses that I took many eons ago talked about the benefits of children dressing up as spooky people on halloween. I know that some parents discourage this but if I remember what my professor said, by playing a bad guy on Halloween and dressing as Freddy Kruger or the devil, kids get the opportunity to conquor their fears.
My eldest son liked to be death every year. He would wear skeleton makeup and carry a plastic sickle. To make it even worse, he would pour fake blood all over his costume. Thus far he is a normal teenager. Much better behaved then other kids and very responsible and respectful.
