My Official Baptism

When I was received into the Church, I asked my priest to conditionally baptize me. Why?

Well, the community I was baptized in when I was a pre-teen had some weird views of the Trinity, didn’t belong to any denomination, etc.

I just wanted the assurance of a valid baptism.

So, my question is: When referring to my baptism, whether in an official or unofficial matter, which **one **do I refer to?

I would refer to the one you can be sure of – the Catholic one.

Well you can only be Baptized once so it would be the first valid one.

It seems to me you should just speak about your baptism the same way you just did to us in this thread.

You don’t know which was the valid baptism so you can’t make any statements as to that fact. But you can mention that two events happened. If you are speaking about your baptism in order to verify that you have been baptized (such as if you are planning to receive some other sacrament) you would state that you were conditionally baptized on such and such a date. If someone needs to know why it was a conditional baptism I’m sure he/she will ask.

If you are mentioning your baptism in reference to some specific thing that happend that day you would just say, “I was baptized by the XYZ Brotherhood when I was 15…” or , “When I was conditionally baptized into the Catholic Church I wore a blue suit…”

If someone asks you what in the world a conditional baptism is, then you have the wonderful opportunity to explain how important baptism is to you.
