In the past, when I was Russian Orthodox, I became a godmother to three kids in Russian Orthodox Church.
I lost the contacts with first godson’s family many years ago, but I’m still in friendly relationships with other two families. Both families aren’t deeply devoted Orthodox - for them it’s merely a russian tradition.
I never actually participated in religious education of the kids, but I always kept them in my prayers. However, I’m feeling like I’m not very good godmother and that I need to meet with children more frequently and teach them the faith. But I’m catholic now - and, I don’t think I should lure the kids into Catholic church. It would be most likely viewed as “catholic prozelytism” 8) Also I’m not sure how the parents would view it. First, they still have Orthodox godfathers to care about children’ religious education. But second, I still can help raising these kids Orthodox - because I don’t view Orthodox as “false” church
for example, I could take the kids into Orthodox church so they can receive Communion. I’m not sure, so I need some advice.
Their parents, as I said, aren’t especially religious, and I don’t know if they would like to send their kids into Sunday School.
A friend of mine asked me if I would like to become a godmother for her daughter in Catholic Church - but, knowing that she is not ready to raise the child in the faith (she is unbaptized herself, and I doubt she wants to go to required catechization course), so I said no for now, because I don’t feel to be able to raise her child in the faith without parents’ help. They are still not baptized…
