Hello everyone, though I don’t post often on this forum I come on to read other posts and resources for information. I thought it might be a good idea to share my story incase anyone has been in my position and simply to share my story for anyone that could use it.

I’m an average man, I keep in shape, go to school, do odd jobs, have an assortment of hobbies. One thing notable about me is my journey of religion. These days, especially in my generation religion is becoming not merely secondary but thrown out completely. I’ve always felt faith is extremely important and does not limit but enhances life. I’m a twenty-one year old Afghan, born and raised in Virginia. I never had a strict Islamic upbringing. My family isn’t very religious, so it afforded me a bit of freedom to studying different religions. I’d have to say my earliest influences in religion are undoubtedly Christian, more specifically Catholic with a Catholic church only a few blocks from where I grew up. It had a beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary and from me wanting to learn more about Her that is where my journey began.

As they say the Virgin Mary leads the way to God and Jesus Christ, which is very true in my case. Its how I began to learn the fundamentals of the Catholic faith. Not only did I find it a beautiful religion but for me after I studied many other faiths. Both other denominations of Christianity and faiths from around the world I found myself always leaning towards Catholicism. Of course, even with my family not being religious I had hardships. Influenced a lot by our modern world I thought at times that religion was a useless pursuit. Also having other Afghans or Muslims tell me it was wrong to hold Catholicism so high and that I was rejecting my roots. I could never agree with this, your faith is what your heart chooses this took me a long time to learn. Despite this even at times of doubt I was led by the Virgin Mary back to Catholicism. I learned more about Her, then the Bible, then Jesus Christ, then God. Certainly I was being led, outside influences could not silence my heart nor stop the Holy Mother from choosing me. We all have our unique path to God, for me I do feel the Virgin Mary is an essential part of it for without Her I would never have found Catholicism or resisted influences to stay away from this most wonderful of faith. I have been attending Mass now, and learning more then ever. I have not been baptized yet but feel I am well on my way. My story is just another path to Catholicism but each one is unique. Also if you’ve been in a similar situation or would like to chat feel free to message me. I’m looking forward to seeing all the wonderful posts of support also. I do feel many are being called to our church but many do not answer. Its up to use to bring as many as we can to our faith. Of course never to force but to lead. My own path has been filled with trials but much joy I would not be who I am without it. May God, Jesus Christ, and the Virgin Mary be with you all.

Dear Kuharido

What a beautiful and inspiring post!

I had many struggles before being received into the Catholic Church at Easter 2010. I have had no regrets and certainly feel that the Blessed Virgin Mary is guiding me.

You are in my prayers.

Thank you Kuharido for sharing your story.

That reminds me of how special it is that our Lord Jesus Christ gave us his mother at the foot of the cross.

Thank you for sharing your very inspiring story! God bless you for hearing Mary’s voice!

🙂

Dear Kuharido,

It’s nice to meet you.

When I was young, I read a series of children’s books on different countries in the world … one of my favorites was “The Land and People of Afghanistan.” The mountains were beautiful, the traditional garb attractive, and Afghans were described as fiercely independent, which I liked as an American.

I pray the daily Rosary and pray specially for Muslims,
and in particular for Afghanistan.

I join in prayer with the Guardian Angel of Afghanistan for your country.

:angel1:

Welcome!

:blessyou:
