So, the modernists on this site have spooked me from going to any other Mass that might be questionable, so tonight I went to a NO for the first time since Christmas day.
It’s pretty much how I remember it but the homily was a page out of this forum. The pastor at my parish who prays the TLM prayed the Maundy Thursday Mass tonight. During the homily, he was on a roll about people who take communion in the hand. He spent 1/3 of the homily reminding people to what they are bearing witness, and do they really “want to grab at Christ”?
He preached that Communion in the hand is permissible, but asked us to think about it next time we step up for Communion. The way he said it was stern like a lecture. I enjoy this pastor because he has only been a priest for 14 years, but he comes across as someone who has been in the trenches for years and has a profound command of Catholicism. He’s never afraid of offending anyone, which I like because I am getting tired of these ambivalent and wishy-washy priests preaching for us to get along by forgetting our differences and focusing on our common ground.
He also shared a story with us about an experience he had with a building committee assigned the task of remodeling the church. He said he brought 2 pictures and passed it out so everyone can review some ideas the pastor had for the remodeling. Everyone agreed the churches were beautiful and it was hard to decide which direction to go. The pastor gathered the pictures ripped them up and said, “One picture is of a Lutheran church and the other is of a Methodist church. Don’t forget what it is to be Catholic.”
