My Penance for Tonight

I made my first confession to my new pastor today, and for my penance he instructed me to do less of the “talking” in prayer and to listen for God. How does one do this?
 
Perhaps sit in front of the Blessed Sacrament and mentally quiet yourself, asking for God to speak
