Let me preface my rant by stating that I can only speak of my personal experience at Holy Mass.

To be clear, I am agnostic. I have attended Holy Mass, Adoration, Divine Liturgy, and some protestant services.

My question here is to the non catholics that do attend Holy Mass during the weekday as I strive to at least twice a week.

Sometimes I see protestants that come after drop off for the school attend the Holy Mass during the weekdays. I will remind you that I am only speaking of the parish I normally attend, even though I do attend many.

For instance, there is a lady who does go after dropping her grandchildren off to Holy Mass. Wearing her church T shirt, that states “No need for a Pope, No need for asking for prayers from Mary. Just go to Jesus”

And she has the nerve to partake of Holy Communion.

This, to me is a scandal.

And, I asked the priest about it. The one in charge there now.
My favorite priest and spiritual director told me that there is no way to read T shirts, and I do believe HIM.

I just want to know what kind of person does this? What kind of person feels they have the right to abuse as a guest the most Holy sacrament of all?

What does go on in the mind of a person doing this?

I have never, ever or would ever disrespect the sacraments. I go up with my arms crossed. I go up and don’t high tail it out after many of the catholics there do after they have Holy Communion. I stay till the very end.

So I know I sound a bit like a whiny kid here. I don’t get it though.

If you’re not a baptized Catholic, I don’t think you’re even supposed to go up for the blessing.

After crucifying him in the flesh, what is so surprising about disrespecting him in the Sacrament?

And every time I sin, I’m guilty of both.

I’m not sure that is right. I think anyone can ask for a blessing.
I don’t even go up with the intent for a blessing. I go up so I can get a closer look at the crucifix and Mary. I always have my arms crossed. I would never disrespect the sacraments.

Her behavior doesn’t correspond to her t-shirt belief, for otherwise she would go directly to Jesus for Holy Communion, rather than needing a Pope to install a Bishop to ordain a priest to confect the Eucharist. 🤷

That’s curious to me, because I have noticed that too. These ones, although a small percentage of those attending, practically leave skid marks in the parking lot. As for the type of person whom would be disrespectful, I would not rule out the possibility of a mental disorder.

Good point! Also, some people do things just because they can. If she feels the need to wear that T shirt, then that is something that she will have to deal with between her and God. In no way to I agree with what she is doing. I think that it is very disrespectful and blantely rude. But, it is what it is. She is drawing attention to herself. And she is probably doing it, like I said before, just because she can. YEAH FOR HER!!! I think in circumstances like this, she should just be ignored. Don’t make it your problem. She may have some other issues that you are not aware of. (IE: various types of personality disorders will lead a person to behave in this manner).

Just pray for her.

This coming Friday is the feast day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This day we honor Him…the heart representing the essence of the person, and Our Lord is total love.

He loves this woman. And on this day, we go to Mass a little early to honor Him in the Blessed Sacrament, we especially honor Him at Mass and in Holy Communion. After Mass, if you can, pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and consecrate yourself to Him…and afterwards do an act of penance or a good deed out of pure love of Him, and to make the day an offering of reparation for all those who do not believe in Him and His presence among us…and for those like this lady in the t-shirt.

The woman sounds very passive aggressive
  • Her grandkids take advantage of the subsidized education
  • she quietly sits thrugh mass
  • taking the sacrament allows her to parade her message, thumbing her nose at everyone

I remember in Canada prime minister Harper received the Eucharist, at a funeral and they made a big deal about it, since he is an Evangelical. And Catholics where up in arms

Eucharist is forbidden for non-Catholics and even baptised Catholics should not receive it unless they have been to Confession.

Non-Catholics are always welcome to receive a blessing from the priest and go up during the distribution of the Eucharist. Just cross your arms so the priest knows.

I don’t think anyone told the Canadian prime minister about this. It was an honest, innocent mistake and I’m sure his Protocol Officer heard about it from the PM afterwards.

The reason we do not allow non-Catholics to receive the Eucharist is because we believe your soul is in mortal danger if:

a) You do not believe in Transubstantiation;

b) You haven’t been to confession and received absolution and;

c) Some knowing what Catholics believe do so anyway in defiance.

I’m far from an expert, but I believe there are rare exceptions to the rule of non-Catholics not receiving HC.

If my personal experience, both of myself and what I suspect of human nature, is anything to go by, a great many Catholics should not receive communion. How many of us receive communion without going to confession beforehand? I’d say the great majority.

On the other hand, I think what this woman is doing reeks either of hypocrisy or arrogance or both, assuming she doesn’t have a mental disorder, or is unaware of the ruling about communion, which is possible. I’m surprised the priest hasn’t spoken to her.

To be honest though, when I was still Protestant I once partook of communion in a Catholic Church. At the time I was there for a “family healing mass” which my Catholic psychiatrist had recommended. Not really knowing what i was supposed to do, I did what everybody else was doing, one of the sheep doing what other sheep do.

I became Catholic later however, and oddly enough I still remember the light that seemed to emanate from that particular priest, on that particular occasion. It may just have been the candle light but there was something numinous about the proceedings. I think the episode may have been one cog in the wheel of my conversion, but technically I was in the wrong.

We can all blunder, and sometimes we do so without realising it.

Anyone can go forward to receive a blessing from God.😃

This is a point I do understand, although it can get confusing when we talk about the types and degrees of blessings.
That being said, I asked my priest about it again after signing up and paying for vacation bible school at my parish for a daily Mass friend who can’t afford it for her grandson.
I know the parish will absorb it if she would just tell them her situation. She won’t though. So she was okay with not letting him attend because she did not want to ask for help.
I gave her the amount she needed so she could let me sign him up with her signature on the paperwork as she is house bound. I am arranging for his transporation to and back.
**She gave me a blessing **by giving me an opportunity to help out.
