This was taken from the ask a protestant a question thread. I figured I wasn’t answering but debating (well more like ranting) so i took my own advice and started a new thread.
Believe it or not, I am learning of a new protestant chapter in all of protestantism from the Arminian, What’s the count now, 21,0000, or 31,000 different protestant Christian belief systems. I am sure the bible only teaches one, Lord, one faith, one baptism. If you could in a sentence justify why all the different protestant belief systems, I would compaign for you to run for president.
Arminian is not a new protestant chapter. You are confused. That is like saying Molinists and Thomists are new chapters of Catholics. Last I checked, both are allowed. Arminians are not a separate group anymore than Molinists are. In fact it’s probably the case that Calvinists and Arminians are just the direct descendants of Catholic Molinists and Thomists. the excuse that you can’t know about protestants cause there are too many kinds is getting tired and was never all that accurate anyhow (see one of the zillion threads on it.), I believe a large portion of the “divisions” you are going on about are also present in the Catholic Church. I see just as many Catholic differences (who are “in communion”) too. the Teen Life Masses I attended were much rowdier than my current Assembly for God Church yet you’d be happy to count Protestants with different music styles as separate denominations, even when that is the only difference! Is Teen Life jsut another Chapter of Catholics? NO? why not? Charismatics vs non-Charismatic, Thomists vs Molinists, Mantilla wearers vs non-mantilla wearers, Liturgical dancers!, hand holders vs. non hand holders, I could go on for days with “non-required” things Catholics disagree on. And don’t try and tell me that those don’t count cause they aren’t required beliefs… you can bet Barrett counted stuff like that when he came up with his #'s of denominations!

The reason why all the different protestant belief systems, is because Protestants descended from Catholics who have many different “belief systems” but only share a common name and common basics. that is why the whole Bible isn’t infallibly interpreted by the Catholic Church, too many things are allowed to be decided for yourselves. Oh wait, that is what Catholics accuse us of! We learned it from the Catholics!

We have are basics we are unified in, they are what make us Christians. Argue that we need more unity, argue that we need a central authority, argue that we should be Catholic. But quit pretending there are 40 zillion protestant belief systems and only one Catholic one.

Good luck convicing him that. The myth of the “40 zillion protestant belief systems” is what drives the bulk of anti-protestant bashers. They wont give up an attack that hurts protestants. Same way that anti-catholic bashers wont give up the myth of “catholic idol-worship”.

We are a warrior race! We need a reason to bash each other!

ROUND ONE

FIGHT!!!

eh I think I gave up on convincing anyone. I just needed to rant it out. ⭕(

There is no need to fight if you know the true religion of Christ:thumbsup:

You know exactly what I think…😉
Actually I don’t, though I might guess from your postings that you lean towards Thomist ideas. There is no way on this earth I could know WHY you believe them or even if my guess based on your postings is even correct.

What is a Thomist???

I have one advise to give you, Syele. Instead of ranting on unity, why not pray for unity and ask God’s grace to help you discern your problem. Jesus called for unity for Christians, not disunity.

A minute ago I supposedly knew exactly what you thought, and now YOU don’t know what you think? How can I know what you think about something you don’t know about? 🤷

[quote=en.wikisource.org/wiki/Catholic_Encyclopedia_(1913)/Controversies_on_Grace]CATHOLIC SYSTEMS OF GRACE According as the theological examination of grace and free will in its efforts to demonstrate the mutual relations between the two took as its starting-point respectively either grace or free will, two pairs of closely related systems were evolved: Thomism and Augustinianism, which take grace as the starting-point, and Molinism and Congruism, which set out from free will. These are the extremes. The middle ground is held by Syncretism, which may be regarded as an eclectic system making an effort at compromise.

Manny, I do pray for unity. But you also say something when lies are said about your faith. Why am I to be denied the same?

Again, what is a Thomist??
It is a Catholic theology about Grace that is different than another Catholic theology about grace. If you are interested I suggest you get information from Catholic sources, I’m just a protestant who reads a lot. 😉

footnote by James Akin:
Since the controversy over grace in the late 1500s and early 1600s, Thomists and Molinists have been forbidden to accuse each other of heresy. In 1748 the Church declared Thomism, Molinism, and a third view known as Augustinianism to be acceptable Catholic teachings.

The commonality amongst Protestantism is that you all tolerate each others “belief systems” much more easily than you tolerate the Catholic Church.
We have are basics we are unified in, they are what make us Christians. Argue that we need more unity, argue that we need a central authority, argue that we should be Catholic. .
Protestantism has no unified teaching about abortion, which the Catholic Church teaches is the most grave injustice of all.
But quit pretending there are 40 zillion protestant belief systems and only one Catholic one
Agreed. I have grown to hate the 30k figure that gets thrown around here. I would have trouble identifying five Protestant belief systems.
