I’ve been reading this forum and there seems to be a lot of hostility between Catholics and Protestants… Why is this?

There are multiple religions for a reason: not all people believe the same things. And religion seems to be anad have been the crux of most conflicts in the world… the “my religion is the better religion and you need to agree with me” argument.

So what if someone doesn’t worship the same way you do, why not just tolerate each other instead of trying to convert or condemn each other?

Isn’t that what Christianity teaches at a high level?

I would say the major factors for wars throughout history has been power, greed, racism, the list goes on and on, but I don’t think religion should be at the top.

I would agree with the previous poster, most war has been the result of power, greed, racism, not religion.

Now those Christians who used violence in their faith have violated the faith and are not really faithfully doing their part. So they would be acting as rejectors of their faith, just trying to subjugate others, denying God and promoting their own desires. So I would argue that most of those promoters of violence were functional atheists.

There are many who do not believe in God who profess themselves to be of one religion or another.

Now if your religion comes from God and is true, you would see that all others are man made and a waste of time. Since I care about others I would try and convince them they are wasting their time and insulting God.

This is why I talk with Protestant pastors, I am still seeking one who has a coherent belief system that is honest. After talking with dozens I am starting to lose hope.

If there are multiple belief systems some must be better than others and if one is true everyone should submit to it.

Now if none are true, then it is all a waste of time, since then God cannot communicate truth and it doesn’t matter. Since I believe in God, I am Catholic.

I don’t know…I am a convert and I try to respect everyone…The only religion for me is Catholic, but others might feel just as convinced about theirs

I love my faith, it is a good fit for me…I was never happy as a protestant…However, there are people that will say it worked just the opposite for them

Christ commanded us to love and not to judge…that’s what I try to do

Look at the middle east… every conflict there is religious based.

Obviously you are one of the people that believe their religion is the “one true religion” and all others are wrong. It’s interesting that others feel the same way about their religions.

I don’t believe that there is one true religion and I don’t believe that anyone can prove their religion to be the “correct one”.

Do you believe in tolerating other religions?

**EXACTLY… I AGREE WITH YOU 100%

Thank you.**

It’s the other “Holier Than Thou” attitudes (from any religion) that drives me nuts. If people stopped judging others over their religious preferences, I believe there would be a lot less conflict in the world. Thankfully we live in a country with religious freedom… a very good thing.

Why are you not Catholic?

Interesting question… I was raised Presbyterian and married a Catholic girl. We were married in a Catholic church with no Mass.

As a family, we now go to the Presbyterian church.

For me, I do not agree with the Catholic church rules / views, such as it’s views on sex, contraception, other religions, etc.

My wife has the same issues.

In other words, you believe your religion is better than the Catholic religion.

The Catholic Church is tolerant of other world religions. In fact, The Church has said, each religion has a degree of truth in it, some religions have more light than others; but of course, the Church has the fullness of the truth.

Protestants and Catholics are different. This is really a family feud. Protestant means “to protest” against the Church, and apologist means to defend the faith. So while I believe one should always elevate love for the other above our theological differences, the focus of protestants is separation and attack, and the focus of Catholics is unity and defend.

“I pray Father, that they would all be one…so the world may believe.”-Jesus Christ

Yes. It’s not about which is “better”. It’s about Truth and error. And the bearing the embracement of that error will have on an individual’s salvation. Such as, using contraception.

I believe the Catholic church wants unity… but under their terms.

The only way “protestants is separation and attack” is true is if you consider protestants and Catholics part of the same church… and I do not.

As a protestant, if I wanted personal unity with the Catholic church, I’d convert… Every protestant has that ability. For me, I like my religion, so “unity” is not a goal of mine.

At least in my religion (I can’t speak for any other), every other religion is tolerated and not attacked or looked at as “wrong”.

That is by your religious standards… I don’t believe that my vasectomy is an “error” or a sin.

What is your religion?
The only way “protestants is separation and attack” is
That there is One Holy Catholic Church, and 30,000 protestant ‘churches’
