Hi all,

I just realized that the scapular I wear has a crucifix as well as a St. Benedict medal attached to it. However, I am not a Benedictine oblate (maybe some day, but not yet!)

Am I allowed to wear this medal if I am not an oblate? What happens, if later, I become an oblate, will I be required to wear a new medal and replace my scapular with the (cheap) one on it?

Thanks!

Lots of people wear St Benedict medals. My local Catholic Bookstore practically gives them away since the owner has such a strong devotion to them. Most wear the Jubilee medal, or some variant of it. Having a St. Benedict Medal, and having it blessed (and you should have it blessed with the correct blessing), does not enroll you in any sort of scapular society, like the Brown Scapular does, it’s merely a sign of personal devotion, like wearing a St. Christopher medal.
