Referring to the section I put in bold, you contradict yourself and scripture. Please note the section in bold in your earlier post.

In Christianity, there there is no conflict between faith and reason. Faith is logical. So let’s use some logic here.

The scriptures clearly say we need to confess our sins to another person. You yourself stated this in your earlier post, but contradicted that in your later one.

You have repeatedly stated that we must forgive those who trespass (sin) against us. In this you are both correct and consistent.

However, in your earlier post, you said that other person must forgive us. What if they do not? I do not think you really meant what that implies.

Basically, since James 5:16 clearly and explicitly states that we are to confess our sins to another person, exactly **who **are we to confess them to? You second post is clearly contradicted by scripture. Your first is more consistent, but has other problems in logic.
Whether the other person forgives you DOES NOT MATTER. If they don’t… pray for them so they receive healing and can forgive you later. Jesus himself has forgiven you because you confessed your sins to Him.

Didn’t we play this game yesterday with Super Sola? It’s the same thread it’s just that believers is a kinder gentler Super Sola.Thank you for your demeaner believers! Belligerence doesn’t go over well here…

With that said, and with all due respect, you will not be able to convert anybody here…

Martin Luther did the Church a big disservice.

first, it started with sola scriptura
then it is was the eucharist and baptism
then it was birth control
and it goes on and on until sooner or later there will be no more Jesus, everything will be thrown out and there will be nothing left.

I was raised Catholic, converted to an Fundamentalist Evangelical Church for about 6 years. Went into a deep unbiased and prayerful journey into the scriptures and have returned to the Catholic Church.

Believers, put down the weapons (loosely veiled as scripture superiority and hubris) and take a deep unbiased and prayerful journey into Church history…

Please come join us!!!
Church history? You are asking me to believe what the Roman Catholic Religion says to believe. You weren’t there and neither was I. But I know what was… the Word of God. The Word of God tells me how to be saved. There is no truth but the Word of God. That’s exactly how the Pharisees and the Sadducees fell into error. Jesus always said have you not read… as it is written… especially when He was tempted by the devil. Well… I’m going to stick with the Word of God…

I’m going to start another thread entitle … ALL have sinned. Why don’t you join me there.

The RCC is wrong, anyone not believing in the Son has not the Father.

1Jo 2:23
Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also].

That includes Muslims and Jews. However, Jews are different. They have a covenant with God. God will turn again to the Jews and fulfill this covenant after the Church leaves (rapture).
can you tell me where in the bible is the word rapture? (verses please)

Well, that counts you out then. Glad you have the authority to declare that, though.

If the RCC is wrong, then the ECC, the EO, the OO, (I’m not sure if Anglicans confess to their priests, I’m assuming in the high churchs they would) are all wrong which basically wiped out every single branch of Christianity until the 1500s:rolleyes:

And how, precisely, was the Word of God compiled into the Bible?

(Hint: It has to do with the Catholic Church holding councils! 👍 )

Catholic religion! The Latin rite is not the only part of the church. I wouldn’t be surpised, with the way you insist on refering to Holy Mother Church as soley Roman, if you’ve never heard of the Eastern Catholic rites or the Orthodex Churches, because they confess to their priests TO JESUS as well. But you choose only the Latin rite to critize for it. Yet together they all represent the earliest beginings of Christianity, share the majority of the same beliefs and are far older then your “new age” ideas.

*Catholics *wrote and compiled the bible. Of course then Luther came along and tore books out, and the KJV screwed around with translations

No, the Word of God is not wrong. If you sin against someone… don’t think you can just run to a priest a tell him and that’s the end of it. That’s not how it works. The RCC is completely wrong. Confess what you did to the person you have sinned against. Repent of your sin and ask Jesus to forgive you. Forgiveness is a very big issue with God. He wants us to be like God in that respect.

Mat 6:14
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

Mat 6:15
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Yeah and what about the other verses that they have give you how do you explain does?

I’ll see if I can have Karl Keating set up a telecon between the Pope, Cardinal Arinze, Moses, Ruth, Absalom, the Good Thief, and the Roman Centurion whose child Jesus healed for next thursday around 9 AM EST so we can finally get this straight…

When the accuser gets his answer…ignores it and continues with his original faulty claim…it’s time to just move on…

Keep studying my friend! :o
I’m going to explain this again just so you get it.

Maybe I should have started from the beginning…
  1. You are sinner. Water baptism did not wash judgment of condemnation away. It’s not a “stain” it’s judgment to hell. You are guilty until you accept the gift of atonement.
Rom 5:18
Therefore as by the offence of one [judgment came] upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one [the free gift came] upon all men unto justification of life.
  1. Get on your knees and confess to Jesus that you are a sinner and He will forgive you. Tell Him that you believe that His blood has paid for your sins. Ask Jesus to come into your heart and be guided by the Holy Spirit.
Psa 32:5
I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said,** I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD**; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
  1. Now you are a born-again believer in Christ.
  2. If you sin against someone… confess that sin to him/her that you wronged that person.
  3. Now, confess your sin to the Lord and you are forgiven.
  4. On flip side of that, if someone hurts you, FORGIVE that person and do not hold a grudge. EVER. Always walk in love. When your time is up… you will receive forgiveness from the Father.

  1. Now you are a born-again believer in Christ.
Gee, it only took 1500 years for people to understand it’s that simple:rolleyes: Sorry but Satan likes to make you think it’s only that easy;) Your dooming yourself to hell my friend, because those sins that are retained are retained, and those with retained sins can never enter paradise.

To “Believers” ~

Yeah, I “get” all that you have written.

But you forgot the part about Jesus giving the power to his Apostles, and by extension, those who came after them (i.e., in present day, Catholic priests) to absolve sin. If they, or their successors, don’t absolve you using the power given to them from the Lord, then your sins remain.

Come home. We pray every day for your return to the sacraments (in my parish, we do this in every morning Rosary.) You know this is where you belong. One reconciliation and you’re restored. Trust me, it’s not as hard as many seem to think. Don’t stay away for the sake of pride or habit or any other thing. Come home now, please. :signofcross:

Ok then how about this (no disrespect intended here). Play a little game with me.

It’s 147 AD, you’re a Christian and a sinner. What do you do now?

There is no Bible, all the original apostles have been martyred, where do you go, who do you turn to?

believers,

I really do feel very sorry for you. You have been mislead by some very confused people. From the Gnostics to the Calvinists to today representatives of false doctrine there have been people who have taught that one need not avoid sin and repent of it if it should be committed but one may either ignore sin or pretend that one does not commit it. In doing so they may act without accountablitiy to the Kingdom of God on earth, the Church of the Living God. Neither the Church nor her scriptures have ever taught that we cannot sin but that we should not sin but if we do we have an advocate even Jesus Christ the Righteous. Neither the Church nor her scriptures teach that we need not confess our sins to the Priests of the Church but on the contrary “if you are ill go to the priests of the Church and they will pray for you for the prayers of the righteous avail much and if you have sinned those sins will be forgiven you.”

I do pray that you will come to the Church for whom Christ died. Come home.

One of our Priests, the oldest and most classically trained and learned (the one that is teaching the Latin Mass to the younger ones, including the Pastor) came into our RCIA class once upon time and discussed other faiths. He discussed Calvinism, among other things. I can’t begin to write precisely what he told us, only that he discussed other faiths and their core beliefs very respectfully and yet showed how they differed profoundly from certain aspects of our faith.

The big turn-off for me in Calvinism is the exclusion of so many people. Churches all over this country, and I’ve been in some of them, that follow that tradition teach that if you don’t believe exactly the way they do in that very church, you are going to hell. I don’t know if this is the same bunch that says that Catholics are not Christian, but if they are then they are more uninformed than I thought.

But the very exclusionary aspects of Calvinism alone are enough to turn me away. The Lord called all of us to be with Him, wants all of us with Him. Calvinism is not like that. They’re exclusionary and elitist. Those are not the values Jesus taught.

The Lord also promised that the Church he founded would remain, and it has, despite numerous abuses by sinful people from both outside and inside the Church.

Believer, it’s time to come home.

You’re exactly right about this.

This also isn’t how Confession works. When you go into the Confessional and confess your sins, you are given a penance. Your penance is to make up for what you did, by apologizing to those you have wronged, returning/replacing what you stole or broke, and praying to God.

Our modern culture has perhaps distorted the very idea of repentance. People are often not sorry, not truly sorry. They’re often sorry they were caught doing something wrong, but not sorry for actually doing something wrong. And the media teaches them that they just need to say they’re sorry, and blame some problem, like substance abuse, and promise to get treatment, and everything is OK.

That’s not true repentance, it’s not true remorse and it’s no wonder so many people are confused by the concept.
