My sister I always thought had a deeper faith than I. However, what I have come to find out is that she is just a lost soul. We are not really speakng anymore and my parents relationship with her has been broken because of the following:

Let me start by saying she is getting a divorce from a man that was abusive to her mentally and physically, so this is a good thing. An anullment I am sure ( I would hope) will take place. However the problem is as follows:

She met a man online… covenspace.com to be exact. If you look it up it is a social pagan website. There are associated sites for pagans and wiccans and such. Her best friend brought this to our attn after my sister told us this man she met and has only seen in person 2xs was moving here from Ohio and moving in with her and her 5 yr old son.
We searched this site and found she called herself a catholic mystic, and additionally, she was a newly ordained minister of the universal life church.
We confronted her on all the above, including this man moving here, and she stated she is still a catholic and believes everything, but believes more… For example, she believes there are more than the 4 Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. She believes in Fairies… (different than Angels) She believes the Rosary wasn’t a prayer, rather just a story… It is just terrible for all of us as devout Catholics. This man has since moved in with her (keep in mind the divorce isn’t even final yet) . And when we talk to her about it she says we don’t understand because she is on a higher level than us…
I went to Catholic School my whole life and my parents as well. Never have I heard about the Catholic Mystic and all the above being acceptable.

I 'm sorry this is long… It’s complicated.

Any words of encouragement would be great! Thanks

well mainly, just pray for her…that’s the first and best step,

but i know how you feel, i have a very big extended family, and i’ve really…seen it all e_e

i think it’s important not to show anger with her about it, because in my experience that might just push her away,
though i don’t know your sister and can’t say what she’ll respond more well to, but maybe try facing her with some logic,
ask her, if this stuff she believed was real, doesn’t she think that God would have made it more known?
or ask her, how have these people on this site earned her trust in their knowledge? how have they proven these claims of theirs?
also, ask her who made this site and what’s their life story?
or ask her who she trusts more…the pope, or these people online?

if she hits you back with the “i’m on a higher level then you” ask her how that proves you wrong? if she’s on such a higher level, why can’t she explain it?

well, if she’s convinced that the rosary isn’t worth saying, then that’s a definite sign of the devil being behind it, because the rosary is the absolute strongest weapon against him,
and what exactly does she have against saying each prayer in the rosary?
does she have something against the hail Mary, the our father, the glory be?
the rosary isn’t praying to Mary, it’s praying threw her, asking her to intercede for you
and the idea that it’s just a story? then what about all the countless visions? can she deny them all? along with the unexplainable miracles and cures?
our Blessed Mother asked us to pray the rosary every day, is that just a story to?

well…aside from all that, just be patient with her as best as you can and pray for her, because even if you don’t see it, God is working on her, and when the time is right He will intervene, as long as you and your family pray every day for her,
also pray for the guy living with her, maybe he’ll turn around to.

I would keep an eagle’s eye on your nephew. Statistically, children in homes with non-related adults are at a much, much higher risk of sexual, physical, and mental abuse than children living with both parents.

Pray, pray, pray, and, if for no other reason than to continue access to your nephew, keep lines of communication open.

Thank you so much for your comments and taking the time to read my long story. I appreciate more than you know. For me, I am struggling, because I have never been so close to her because she has always caused problems for my parents growing up and now even in her 30’s she is still doing that. I personally am ok not talking with her right now because It is like I put up a guard. I do pray for her, for her soul, and that God’s gets through her.

We showed her all the definitions of “pagans” and she rationalizes it. It like she is believing these, “friends” she had on this website and other people she met in her life along with this guy and believing them and just disregarding what her family… the people that really love her are saying.

Its very sad

Hi Cari-
You are absolutely right. We do keep up enough communication with her for the sake of my beautiful nephew. We try to get him on the weekends when his father doesn’t have him and take him away for the weekends when my mom and dad go to the beach. We go to his tball games and show support and love and luckily my other sister has a son close to his age and they are best buddies.

Thanks

hi-
We make sure we ask him questions and he is a pretty honest kid. We already thought about talking to a lawyer (because her soon to be ex husband isn’t all that stable) and sadly there isn’t anything we can do right now because there is no proof of anything and it seems to be ok at this point. All of our radars are on for sure.

I just don’t know how someone goes from being raised the way she was to this

Thanks Nicole,
We have called the Sisters to pray and sent the intentions in at Church. My mom talked to her friend who is a priest and my dad’s sister who is an IHM Sister.

I appreciate you kind words

I’m afraid I don’t have any advice to give you, but I will certainly pray. :signofcross:

I left the Church for about 14 years, and that pagan, new age, spirit world is where I went. It can be very seductive because the only “rule” is to “harm none.” So follow the flesh and do whatever feels good, just so long as no one is upset, it’s all good. Of course, it was also complete emptiness.

I did return to the faith, so don’t lose hope. Keep the lines of communication open. Don’t condemn her. Just love her and pray for her and love her and pray for her…

I’ll pray for you all as well.

Gertie

That’s exactly where my nephew and his soon-to-be wife are, too. He became pagan awhile after his parents left the Church.

My prayers are with you.

Hi Gertie-
Thanks, it’s funny because you say it was complete emptiness… she says this is the Happiest she has even been and she is at totaly peace… Christimas Season is extremely important to our family, and I think that is going to be quite difficult for her because it won’t be like it always was… that is what I am hoping, to maybe have her realize, but who knows if that will happen.

Really, that is so sad. I just can’t imagine growing up with the religion we have known and all it’s wonders and turning to something like that. I pray everyday for her and my nephew and truly hope she turns back around and also that I can build my relationship with her again.

I think part of the problem is that they never really knew the wonders. They went to Mass, but without any real understanding. They never knew what they were missing when they left.

I pray for them all the time, and now will include your family when I pray for them.

Universal Life Church? Wow…is that still around? A friend of mine paid $ 25 to get a license to preach from that organization…over forty years ago! I’m surprised it’s still around.

**As for you sister, no matter how hurtful all of you feel about the situation, continue to keep lines of communication open. I would be concerned for her five-year old son. He should not be living with a stranger like that. **

I would have said the same thing at first. All that freedom, all those desires to fulfill. And it all seemed so new and fresh and exciting. But really, after awhile, there’s just nothing there to sustain that excitment. And that freedom just leads to heartache after heartache because it isn’t the freedom of the children of God.

You said earlier that she told you she was on a higher plain than you. Lord, do I remember the arrogance of those days. She will probably say some nasty things about the Catholic Church. Just love her, accept her, direct her towards union with God.

Don’t worry about what she’s saying. Just encourage her, regardless of the religion she’s practicing, to seek God. Just keep focusing her attention on God. Don’t call Him Jesus, and if she calls God by other names, just let it go. All throughout my time in that world, I kept longing for closeness with God and seeking that union. There is only one God, and He will draw her back in His ways.

Preaching to her, pointing out her sins, etc., will do no good because she’ll receive it the same way that you or I would accept an LDS telling us that we must be baptized in their temple or be damned. So let God work in her heart. Just accept her and love her with the unconditional love of God.

Gertie, once again thank you. I feel like you do understand where she is right now. Even though it will be a sturggle, I have faith that you are back in the Church and my sister will too one day. I have to work on talking to her at all because I haven’t spoken to her in weeks, although I do see my nephew, which is most important at this time. I pray to God to give me strength with her.
