My sister is a praticing homosexual, she was raised a Catholic but has left and has no interest in God or anything like that.

So she had a marriage ceremony last year, and now has told my Mum she’s 3 months pregnant, from some clinic locally, must be some sperm donor centre.

A part of me is sickened by this, she is deliberatly denying this child a Father, and probably plans to have more. It doesn’t seme right.

What can I do here? I honestly don’ think I can support her into this, and she’s already upset I didn’t attend her marriage party (but the reasons were many apart from that).

Has anyone else experienced this, and how did you react?

I don’t need anyone giving out to me, I’m going through a bad patch in life as it is. Plese don’t post if you have no constructive things to say.

Even if you don’t support her or her relationship, I’d recommend trying to cultivate a relationship with your future niece/nephew. You don’t have to approve of your sister’s choices to love her and the child. The child is innocent, even if you believe your sister is not. Besides, what could you realistically do about it, since she’s already pregnant?

Honestly I’d just be honest with her and tell her that as a Catholic Christian you cannot support her decision to be a homosexual or her decision to deprive this child of a father. I would add that as her brother you still love her but love doesn’t mean “agreement” or “acceptance”. Honesty is the best policy as my dad used to say. Tell her that you will love your niece/nephew no matter how they were conceived as well (but add that you don’t agree with that either).

If she doesn’t ask you, I think you can assume she knows what you think. Remember the Lord’s admonition not to throw pearls before swine, “lest they trample them underfoot, and turn and tear you to pieces.” That is not martyrdom; that’s imprudence.

If she ever says her child has no father, just two mothers, well, in that case you can say, “That is not true, Sally, and you know it.” Still, if a woman gets pregnant by illicit means, she’s still a pregnant woman, she is still your sister, and it is OK to help her out and to be good to her child, your niece or nephew. It isn’t the child’s fault.
