I lasted about 20 posts on (that other site). The negativity completely drained me. Listening to “Free Grace” tell me how Mary’s Apparitions are actually the Devil pulling the wool over our eyes.

How do you refute that? “So’s your mother” can only go so far.

I’m sorry, Notworthy. But I don’t recall ever talking about Marian Apparitions with you. Perhaps you went by another screen name? In fact, I don’t recall ever saying to anyone that Apparitions were the result of “the Devil pulling the wool over our eyes.” I have talked about the utter uslessness of Apparitions though, seeing how they come under private revelation. But thank you for mentioning me here. I feel rather honored by that. 🙂

Hey, that’s great! One of the posters from the other board came to us! Please take a look around and learn more about the Catholic faith.

Here one will not experience hateful rants or personal attacks. This board is definitely a rare jewel in the crown of Internet forums.
Hmmm, I wish.

But that aside, Welcome back - even though I have never really met you before 😛 😃

It was on a thread when we talked about the honor given to Mary, where we discussed the Ark of the Covenant and the Theotokos. You may have been on the receiving end of someone wanting to share the Marian/Satanic appearances.

I took some talks off-line with you (maybe an “iota” or two?) and your name stuck. I’m sorry if I confused you with someone else.

Welcome to the Forum!

I think we should just let them “come to us” so to speak. If they’re curious and honest with themselves, they’ll seek the words of the actual Church.

Lord, restore us to your will.

Welcome Back Dennis…Come and find rest in our embrace…REVIVE RELAX LOVE AND BE NOURISHED…you are home!

Well alright!!! Now I remember you! 🙂 It was from the old boards! I thought very highly of you. Yes, I remember our off line talk. It was about Mary, Mother of God. We were in agreement as I recall. Yes, I remember the “iota.” You were the only one who got it! 🙂

I hope you have been doing fine and that things are going well for you. You were an example of kindness and grace over there for the short time that you posted.

As far as Marian Apparitions go, I find a couple of them to be quite beautiful. In fact, I have found that I have a great love for St. Bernadette through studying Lourdes. It’s a shame about the private revelation, though.

Anyway, it has been a blessing to “see” you again.

Free Grace,

Hello and welcome to the Catholic Answers Forums! I hope you have a blessed and uplifting time here. I note that while you joined last October, you only have a dozen posts here. Have you been lurking much?

Are you indeed the same person as “Free Grace” on CARM? If you are not, then NotWorthy is referring to somebody else. At any rate, I distinctly remember more than one person over there telling me in no uncertain terms that the Marian apparitions at Fatima and Lourdes were demonic in nature.

Apparitions in general (apart from the specific graces received, like the healings at Lourdes) are useful in that they provide motivation to people. They don’t give any new doctrine, to be sure. Ideally people should not need the extra motivation, but then ideally we wouldn’t be sinners either.

Free Grace,

Hello and welcome to the Catholic Answers Forums!
Thank you Liberian.

<<>>

Thank you. I have been. 🙂

<<< I note that while you joined last October, you only have a dozen posts here. Have you been lurking much?>>>

Yes. This is a very nice site.

<<<Are you indeed the same person as “Free Grace” on CARM>>>

Yep, I’m is that same person. 😃

<<<At any rate, I distinctly remember more than one person over there telling me in no uncertain terms that the Marian apparitions at Fatima and Lourdes were demonic in nature.>>>

Most likely that was Budge. The other might have been TBF or Tan2Day. I would never say that an approved apparition was demonic in nature. In regards to Lourdes, I would never trash talk Bernadette. I have a great affection for her. She kept things real in her life. But no, I would never say that an approved apparition was demonic in nature. I do find it a shame that they fall under private revelation, though. It gives the impression that they are utterly usless. I also think that many apparitions are extremely beautiful in nature. Some are weird, though. Take Rwanda for instance. Very, very weird. But considering the urgancy of the message and the nature of the prophacy…well, you can see why it would give the appearance of being weird or bizarr.

<<<Apparitions in general (apart from the specific graces received, like the healings at Lourdes) are useful in that they provide motivation to people.>>>

Yes. I have no problem in agreeing to that. The problem is with the heading of private revelation. For example, if you were an outsider looking in, what would you see? Well, you’d see an apparition, though having approval, doesn’t have to be accepted as genuine. If the message is from God, then it is genuine and should be accepted by the world as such. But on the other hand, just how would you classify a Marian Apparition other than private revelation. As they say, nothing is ever easy.

Do you know what brought me to God, Liberian? It wasn’t the preaching of a fire and brimstone Baptist. Goodness, who could ever understand them in the first place? That is, they scream as fast as they can while cramming as many words possible into a hung runon sentance as if their life depended on shouting a million words in the span of two seconds. No, it wasn’t that. It was an apparition, Lib. An unapproved one at that. Would you have ever guessed it was Garabandal? And it doesn’t even matter one bit if Garabandal is true or not.

Oh well, do tell.

But yes, I am the same person that you are thinking of. 🙂

Thank you for the private message, NotWorthy. 🙂 I’ve always thought you to be a very saintly person. May your cup of blessing always be full. 🙂

I’m just a sinner, like all the rest of us. God has blessed me, but I remain,

Notworthy

P.S. Thanks for the kind words, though!!

I remember Liberian and Free Grace from the other boards as well. Nice to see you all here. I like it better, much less antagonistic.

And not one person here has called me a danger to children 😃

LOL!!!

That would have definitly came from Budge! I think she had some obvious sexual hangups and problems. She finally got banned.
I never understood why she ever went to CARM anyway. She owned her own board. Perhaps she just got bored with her board. As I recall from browsing through it, there were once a few Catholics who posted there, but I think they finally got tired of her insanity and left.

Yes I remember you, bienvienido !!! I used to goto other boards but found them rude so for the time being I’ll stay here until they throw me out.
I’m lasting a lot longer here than on other non-catholic boards, 2 or 3 posts and I was axed, is that a record ? 😛

I remember Budge and it does sound like something from her. But no, it was the moderator Diane. She really didn’t like it when I pointed out that she was indignant that catholics weren’t posting to the abortion board but excused evangelicals for not posting there. See, they didn’t have time for the abortion board because they were too busy pointing out why all the other religions were false and had no time for the abortion board.

When I pointed out her double standard, it made me a danger to children and a liar and I was banned. I tried to email her to extend the olive branch but was never answered. She REALLY doesn’t like me. I’ve learned that comes with being catholic though.

I do realize I can’t judge evangelicals by the actions of CARM. Instead I look at bloggers like Joe Carter at The Evangelical Outpost and Mark D. Roberts (self-titled blog). I like Roberts’ series on Lent.

Dianne HAAAAAATES Catholics, God bless her but she is the angriest thing I’ve seen on a message board. There’s zero neutrality on the RC Board at CARM, and they don’t make any bones about it. Dianne insisted Papist isn’t an insult to Catholics. Yet when I refered her the dictionary definition:

pa·pist Audio pronunciation of “papist” ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ppst)
n.
Code:
Offensive. Used as a disparaging term for a Roman Catholic.
She just smugly said, “It isn’t an insult to me, and if the shoe fits” yada yada…

Yeah Dianne despises us Catholics without a doubt, to her we are barely human it seems at times, It is a bit upsetting, I was naive I had no doubt people hated us so much, and this is the same person who preaches how full of Christs love is. It really is tough to buy that she has it right when you’re assaulted with such hatred on those “other boards”. And she’s the moderator which is scary…

Free Grace,

Well, I am very pleased to see you over here.

Interestingly, I first heard about Garabandal back in the mid 1970’s when I was nominally Episcopalian but had a strong Southern Baptist influence. I read about it and suffered from a rather strong case of cognitive dissonance–the thought that “This can’t possibly be true!.” Nevertheless, in the back of my mind there stayed the realization that I had no evidence that it was false, and there it stayed for some decades like an unpaid bill.

I can appreciate your discomfort with the Church’s stance that private revelations don’t need to be accepted by the individual Catholic. (Can you imagine the hoots from the anti-Catholics about “the bondage of Rome” if the Church declared that we did need to accept something from a private revalation? You’re right, nothing is ever easy.) But I would submit to you that just because the Church doesn’t require something (and requiring something is a VERY strong action) does not mean that the Church finds it useless. John Paul II was very supportive of Fatima and plainly considered it to be a message from God.

Thanks for sharing your testimony about Garabandal. I find it most … I can’t think of quite the right word, but “appealing” is as close as I can find.

I knew Budge from her own board. I was participating until I got banned last July. But I recently checked in and I can tell you there are two or three patient Catholics who are posting there presently. They are doing a great job, too, considering.

Welcome back,

I came back a few days ago from another site and am still trying to get the time and gumption to go back.

It is very time intensive to participate on those boards as they post so much in so many directions sometimes in reply that to really represent the faith properly you need to spend a lot of time there. I don’t have very much time on the computer so I feel bad when I don’t respond all the time.

I am going to go back in a few days, I just came back here to get a good recharge.

God Bless
Scylla
