My son and his Diabetes

My son has Type 1 Diabetes. He takes 5-7 insulin injections a day. His numbers have been SERIOUSLY out of control for may weeks now. I am so scared for him because the consequeces of prolonged hi sugar can be severe. We have always been able to make the adjustments necessary to bring him down, but now it seems no matter what we do, he goes higher and higher. I am so scared that if it is found out just how bad his numbers have been that they will take him away from me. Please pray that we may get his disease to a more managable place.

Ana there must be some reason they haven’t figured out some determining factor, so I’ll ask God to please let it be made clear whatever is stopping your son’s system from regulating properly. It’s now 9.30 pm in Australia, so a little late to ring my sister to check if her son has had this particular problem. I know it was difficult to get things adjusted for him, but anyway,
please God, help to sort this out.

Please, in any case, touch this boy with Your healing power
and please give his parents peace and comfort.

I’ll keep on praying for you and your son, and will remember him and you in Mass and Communion tomorrow.

Trishie, I can tell you SOME determining factors. He HATES his Diabetes. He HATES the injections. He HATES the pump. He HATES the Doctors. He HATES the bloodwork. He HATES having his food regulated. He HATES testing. He HATES himself for him having Diabetes. In his own words, he HATES his life…

I would be grateful for any tips your sis has to offer. Lord knows parents of D children are more helpful than any doctor I’ve been too. I am also talking to some other D parentson another site to see if we can’t figure out what is going on.

My daughter, aged 14, is on the pod system and that has really improved her blood sugars and cut down on the amount of injections.

Is he spilling ketones? If so talk to his endocrinologist to see what you need to do. Only a doctor can make the next recommendation as to what your son needs. Make a friend of that doctor and explain to your son that complications arise from poor control of his sugar levels. If your son is going to ‘‘cheat’’ on his diet, make sure he exercises the extra sugar he eats off.
I am a diabetic of 26 yrs. and exercise is key to good control, but checking his sugars and phoning the doctor with updates is crucial to staying healthy also. Explain to the doctor that his sugars aren’t coming down, and if need be he may have to go to the E.R. to have fluids replaced via an i.v. Doctors are there to help you, not take your son away. Your son needs medical care first and foremost. Caring enough to take him to the hospital will show the doctors that you ARE doing best by your son.
I will pray for you and the health of your son. Get him to the E.R. and get some fluids replaced, so his blood volume returns to normal and his sugars come under control. He sounds as if he is dehydrated. I.v.'s can fix this problem.

Heavenly Father, I know you love Ana and her son more than anyone in this whole world ever could, as your love and mercy is infinite. Be merciful, Father, and help Ana’s child get his blood sugar levels down so Ana doesn’t have to worry about having her son taken away. I know you can work your power in this situation. Please, help. I don’t know if exercise enters in the equation, but if it does, may Ana’s son get his exercise time in everyday. Please, improve this situation, Lord. Ana is depending on you. Amen.
