Smoking marijuana is not medicine and will never be legal.

THC does have legitimate medical use, but smoking will never be approved as a vehicle delivery method. No matter what state laws may say, federal law is supreme, and marijuana cannot be consumed raw in any method and still be safe.
Based on what? How is a pot brownie “unsafe”?

No the threat from the brownies is actually much worse.

Watch this video - if you know anyone who uses marijuana you will never be the same.

It changed my whole outlook please take a look you owe it to yourself.

Do not bother with people like this. He will not be likely to listen to reason.

It is a result of brainwashing. The war on drugs caused millions of American’s to be indoctrinated into a way of thinking that results in the above.

If you were taught your whole life to believe that alcohol is evil and should be illegal - you would believe it.

Marijuana has cured cancer multiple times right here in Michigan. On top of that thousands of people are no longer addicted to opiates as a result of medical marijuana.

Anyways I will go with the “left wing hippies” on this one and say throwing people in cages like animals for smoking a plant is wrong. Dead wrong.

You are free to believe as you wish - but please apply scripture. If marijuana is evil you should sympathize with anyone who smokes or sells it because they would be being deceived in that make-believe scenario.

Define any recommended dosage of an unextracted chemical within an agricultural product. Impossible. Lack of overdose deaths hardly constitutes being certified as safe. There are no studies on the rates of colon cancer in people who ingest marijuana. All the chemicals that cause lung cancer are still present when eating the plant and are processed through the digestive tract, where they are just as harmful as other carcinogens that are digested, if not more so.

Vapor form only solves half the problem, while removing many of the toxins, it is impossible to measure adequate dose with any accuracy directly from the raw product. People who are honestly using marijuana for medical reasons may not be healthy enough to process the drug properly.

Marinol is the only approved method. Liquid extraction is safe for accuracy and should receive FDA approval soon. Other than that, people need to be honest about what they are doing. I do not believe it’s use is immoral. Everything in moderation. However, supporters need to stop making unsubstantiated claims about medical use.

I’d refer back to the Bible to see where it says that smoking marijuana is crime against God. I’m sure you’ve heard this from your son before “Man created beer, God created pot. Who do you trust?” Regardless anything in excess would be considered glutany. The fact is that while every year people die of alcohol poisoning, while no one has ever died of THC(the drug part of marijuana) poisoning. I got laughed at in college for a persuasive speech I my gave in my oral communications class supporting medical marijuana and a decade later it’s now legal in my state. The only thing I’d be alarmed about with your son defending marijuana is the social rammifications. He may end up getting himself labeled as a “stoner” or a “druggie”. Before you get too many new wrinkles or gray hairs though, do your homework on his opinion, you may be surprised.

I seem to recall God also creating hemlock.

Valid issues that need to be addressed. Sir the problem with marinol is that it does not have all of the therapeutic chemicals in it. As you surely already know - there is a variety of strains that are better for different ailments. You are obviously informed about this so what do you suggest we do to regulate? As you know it is possible to regulate dosage - however with current medical marijuana guidelines that is unlikely. A doctor could recommend but it is up to the patients discretion to follow those recommendations. You undoubtedly know of the benefits. Do you think they outweigh the risks? Curing cancer and helping the fight against opiate addiction can not be over-looked in my opinion. I do not work in a field that deals with any of this either so I would like to hear your unbiased perspective - not the one your department officially holds. I know a few years back I read that opiate addiction was one of America’s biggest problems. Is that still true? If so - do you find that medical marijuana is aiding society to fix that problem or has it done more harm than good?

I am very interested to hear your real opinions. I know you mentioned some aspects of this (involving the cartels) are classified. If you could elaborate I would appreciate it - if not I will just have to take your word and continue with that train of logic in good faith until it is declassified.

Do you believe regulation is a mistake that would only feed the beast (cartels in this case)? I understand that there is a lot of misinformation out there on both sides.

My mother has extreme pain and is on opiate painkillers. She hates taking pills and for most of her life would refuse pain killers when offered. I am concerned that she will become addicted (in fact - it is highly likely she already is). I hate to see her cornered like this but without more information I can not in good confidence recommend that she try marijuana… It still feels like it would be evil to say that to my mother - which might have to do with the fact that I myself was raised during the “war on drugs”. Or it might be an immoral thing to recommend to her and my hesitation might be justified.

I would really like to hear back from you on this topic.

Marijuana in it’s natural state must be filtered to remove unwanted byproducts to extract the THC. Without this process, marijuana is not much safer than opium plants and their byproducts. This process is the same with marijuana. Only when the target chemical can be exactly measured will it be approved for medicinal purposes.

Poppy plants in raw form can produce heroin, but processing can produce morphine, codeine, methadone, and other approved medicines that are much safer than the original product. Each carries its own risk that must be assessed with the patient, but dosage can be exact, enabling to the doctor to monitor and predict its effects to determine the best treatment.

Opiate addiction is a widespread problem, but is on the decline in most areas. States like Florida were behind the curve and became a target area for prescription diversion in surrounding southern states. Legalizing marijuana will only move the drug from Class 1 on the list of controlled substances to either Class 2 or 3. The government must continue to recognize that the drug is addictive and has a high potential for abuse, meaning it will continue to be a controlled substance that is monitored by DEA.

The illegal trafficking of prescription drugs carries penalties just as severe of penalties as trafficking of illegal drugs. Current law makes no distinction between the two. The ability for people to gain illicit profit from prescriptions currently approved means that the underground drug trade of marijuana will not go away simply because a drug has been approved as medicine. This is the sad reality of our society.

Thats YOUR opinion. Its illegal and should remain that way with stiffer finds for those caught with it. I can drink a beer or enjoy a glass of red wine in public but you cant smoke a joint in public without the cops taking you away. This is just more left wing hippie ideology trying to corrupt this united nation.
And the other people around them getting a contact high and taking in smoke into their lungs which can damage them. Anything that causes smoke to be ingested into the lungs has got to be dangerous. When you’re cooking and your food is burning you start choking on the smoke because it is irritating your lungs and anyone else’s who is in contact. Drinking a small amount of alcohol does not affect everyone else who is in the general area.

So do you think we should outlaw cigarettes? With all the other junk they put in cigarettes, they are very dangerous. Smoke is bad for your lungs (I should know it killed a few family members), but you can regulate smoking laws and also laws having to do with pot as well. Not going to say my position, but if we should outlaw pot, we should also outlaw cigarettes.

My pastor briefly touched on this subject recently. Any substance which alters the consciousness is considered a mortal sin. When marijuana is used for medical purposes, such as slowing down the growth of certain cancer cells and not used for recreational use then I don’t think it would be a big deal, since the intent is not so much to get high, as it is to treat a medical condition.
Many argue how harmful alcohol is, and while it can also be a mortal sin if used excessively, one or two drinks usually will not dramatically alter ones consciousness. I think it was Thomas Aquinas who said, regarding the subject of when is it too much; ‘‘drink to the point of hilarity’’.

Yes, I do! 🙂 Since we know it is harmful to everyone’s health, and the people around them. Even with smoking sections outside parks or restaurants, smoke doesn’t just stop at the perimeter you set for it. It affects the unborn babies of women who smoke or if their family members smoke around them and they get secondhand smoke. People can’t argue that someone is trying to tell them what they can’t put into their own bodies because smoking doesn’t only affect the smokers.

When the substance is banned by civil authorities, there can really be no argument. Our Church teaches us to submit to those authorities if they do not instruct us to act sinfully.

When the substance is not banned by civil authorities, however, there are probably arguments to be made on both sides. Getting drunk on purpose is a mortal sin, so it would logically follow then that getting high on purpose is also a mortal sin. Having never partaken of marijuana, I don’t know if there is such a thing as smoking without really getting high. Like the light buzz that’s A-OK, from a moral perspective, when you’re drinking. If there is, then that probably falls within the boundaries of morally acceptable behavior. I think it’s pretty clear that purposefully getting drunk, wasted, cracked out, or whatever are all gravely sinful.

That said, I’m probably alongside the hippies when it comes to the proper penalties for this behavior. I despite pot smokers but I don’t think they should be jailed. Or rather, I enjoy seeing them get jailed because I don’t like them, but another part of my brain recognizes that as a huge waste of taxpayer dollars and an absurd contributor to jail/prison overpopulation. So I guess I’m agnostic on whether a state should decriminalize pot. But I do believe the Church is clear that getting high for recreational purposes is morally wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I was out of town so sorry for the late response.

After reading this I think I have been more or less reminded that I am doing the right thing by not recommending it to her. If her doctor wants her to try it fine but I will keep my nose out of it. It’s a sad situation though… I have seen what those pills do to people that stay on them for too long I don’t wanna see her like that. I can already see it starting and her pain is getting worse…

Like always God’s grace will be sufficient.

Thanks for taking the time to break it down for me.

I think that if one is using it for strictly medicinal purposes, there is nothing wrong with using marajuana. Any other reason probably wouldn’t meet muster, tbh.
