My Son also did not want to continue CCD classes and ended up not being Confirmed. I think he was 14 or 15 then. I was disappointed but gave it to the Lord. About six years later He, on his own, got private instruction and was confirmed at Easter Vigil. About a year later he felt a call to the Priesthood. Long story short, he was Ordained as a Diocesan Catholic Priest this past June 6th.
God works Wonders. 👍

Some suggestions on books:

Do I Have To Go by Matt Pinto

Amy Welborn’s Prove It Series

(these may be a bit youngish, but, give them a look)

For the you

Converting the Baptized: A Survival Manual for Parents, Teachers, and Pastors by William J. O’Malley

Search and rescue by Patrick Madrid

One thing, you might remind your son that he is bound to marry under the Catholic rules of marriage. If he decides to enter an invalid marriage, you and your wife and Catholic family will need to decide if you will attend such an event.

Prayers!!

Thanks for the encouragement, while I don’t se the priesthood in his future, and I am hopeful that he will come back to the church at some point.

Kage_ar, thanks for the book list, I will see if I can get my hands on them.

Thanks everyone for all of the advice and comments, I feel more comfortable now that I have and am doing all that I can without causing animosity.

I will continue to pray for wisdom and enlightenment for him and myself, and am grateful to those of you are praying for us also.

My daughter told me that she didn’t want to be confirmed when she was a junior—but her reasoning made sense. At our old parish the instructor was more interested in discussing whether or not the children were racists than in teaching them the Catechism. I knew I could not force her to be confirmed, but she was still expected to attend Mass with the rest of us, and after we moved 18 miles down the road and to a new diocese, she was delighted to be confirmed (at 18.) She is 21 now and is a better Catholic than I am. She is engaged and sponsored her fiance when he was also confirmed at our new parish.

Don’t give up hope. Keep praying for your child.

I’m sorry you and your wife are experiencing this. I would be upset also. It makes most sense to give gentle guidance and do not threaten or argue. Hopefully he will come around one day as it should be right for him.

My DRE told me the other day that *High School age through 25 *is the largest age group who drops out of the church. It may take some time. He may be back. Lets pray for him.

God Bless. Take care.
