This is the problem. You are Canadian. Remedy this as soon as possible.🙂
I saw the humOUR in your response neighbOUR :D.

I hate that Canada puts 4 and 5 year olds together like that. It’s so unfair to the younger kids that are basically pre-schoolers.

How terrible they say it is on your son, not the bully. And they have observed this for a year? This is very unacceptable. I would not stop until something was done that protects my child from physical and mental harm. Get your husband involved, have another meeting, involve the parents too in this meeting. These are patterns of behaviors. So what if the parents won’t make eye contact, ignoring doesn’t mean things just go away. This child will go to bully others, I am sure it isn’t just your son.
What I have been doing is telling all the other parents I know about the issue and I’m finding that the other parents are sharing similar stories with me about the bully (during daycare). My son is not the only one and it has been an on-going issue with the daycare. This boy doesn’t seem to bully during school hours b/c my son and the bully have excellent kindergarten staff and teachers and they are always on it and never let it happen. My son backs this up that it only happens at daycare. At least he gets reprieve from it during school hours.

It may be worth making the complaint in writing, with dates and incidents cited. OTOH, they only have a matter of weeks left.
This would be my next step for sure. I would document everything and give it to the powers that be. I would even contact my local politician and school trustee if I had to.

Since this kid will no longer be an issue come July 15th, I’m asking for daily feedback from teachers and daycare staff.

I have positive news…after speaking with the daycare manager last Friday, she told me that the daycare has made several mistakes with my son and she was not aware of the situation. I told her about the bully pinching my son last Thursday and leaving a read mark and her first question was:
  1. Was a report filed? No.
  2. Did the ECE tell you what the consequence was for the bully? No.
  3. Did the ECE tell you what they are doing to de-escalate the situation? No.
Then the manager told me that she was sorry and she was going to address the issue with the staff.

I went to pick up my son at the daycare and the ECE told me that they are:
  1. Telling the bully to stop tattle tailing on my son and that they are in control and watching them.
  2. Encouraging my son to use his words and tell the ECE how he’s feeling. They are asking him throughout the day to encourage it. (my son has been crying a lot and having meltdowns at daycare)
  3. Giving my son positive feedback everytime he uses his words.
  4. Separating the bully from my son every time they see that the bully is getting aggressive with my son. They will not stop them from playing together b/c they are hoping that they may resolve their differences and there are moments when they are nice to eachother.
What do you guys think? Is this effective management by the daycare?

Also spoke to my son’s teacher and she reported no bullying at all in the past week and my son has also backed this up too.

I would tell my son it was the right thing to tell about someone who makes it a habit to do this kind of thing, since those in charge need to know and can’t be everywhere at once. Then i’d tell him that while it is sad that he had to go through this, I’m very proud of how he handled it. It speaks well for how he is going to handle life’s problems, because he will only get better and better at coping with life’s difficult people and life’s bad days. As the pilots say, “Any landing you walk away from is a good one.”

Thanks Easter Joy. His resolve and the fact that he’s still happy and wanting to play in the school yard after school…says a lot about his character.

I’m really proud of him !! It is definitely a sneak peak into his future character! I never thought of it that way. Thanks.
