Looks like the “Music Issue” may be resolved. For the past two week, the parish ahas goon back to former settings. Of course, there could be reasons for that.

Last week we has a visiting priest from the order that runs the parish and this week The feast of Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael was on Friday and this will be the last year that out parish will be named after them (The name is changing due to tghe merger of 4 parishes).

We will see in 2 weeks since I will be on vacation and out of town next Saturday and Sunday.

The parish has two strikes against it so far. One more and I am outta there.

Looks like I may of not been the only one who complained. This from the Minutes of the last Pastorial Council Minutes:
**Pastor’s Remarks: **Fr. ********* said he had met with the Music Minister about concerns about the music program. They are working together to address these concerns.
I am still considering leaving the parish. The one about 4 miles east of me is still a possibility, but they are starting the same process of looking at merging that my currently parish just went through.

I think the pastor at the last Novus Ordo mass center I attended summed it up best. He came out in front of the Altar for the Homily and stated, " I know the new rules say we’re not supposed to give the Homily out front here, but I felt as though the nature of this Homily made it ok. If anyone has a problem with this, just dial 1-800-POPE"

That was the last straw for me. You can’t thumb your nose at the Pope and then condem others as being divisive for attending the TLM… you can’t have it both ways.
Curiously, the priest not only betrayed his rebellious attitude, he is actually incorrect. I only preach from the pulpit but the new GIRM says that the homily can be given from another suitable place.

I might challenge you a bit. Referring to a parish church or other legitimate oratory as a “Novus Ordo mass [lower case?] center” doesn’t show much respect either.

Ha! My list of abuses trumps your list of abuses. Time and space hardly allow . . .

Anyway, I have stayed because I have a sense that my presence is a good thing in the long run I won’t say for sure that lack of better alternatives is not part of my inertia.

Recently, however, I have decided to resign from my lay ministries in the sanctuary because I can no longer tolerate the abuse of the Eucharist. Outside of our liturgical minister playing fast and loose with the lectionary and the rubrics, there is [IMHO] serious mishandling of the sacred vessels. I happened to serve the Wednesday evening of All Saints and again on Saturday. There were still particles of the Body of Christ in the vessels.

As far as I can determine, the cups are wiped out by the EMHC’s and washed in the sacristy sink [which I suspect is not a sacrarium]. What happens to the purificators I don’t know, but I’m going to check with a sacristan whom I trust not to be offended by my asking.

I think it is protetsing this sort of thing that got Fr. Corapi kicked out of the monastery. Gather Us In; All Are Welcome. Unless one takes the GIRM seriously.

And I might in turn, respectfully, challenge you. A few examples, to support my contention;
  1. Local parishes that no longer use the term Church or parish … they are now called “worship centers” (their terminology) and instead of a Catholic Parish or a Roman Catholic Church, they go by Small Faith Community or Catholic Christian Community.
  2. A local “Catholic” University "worship center’ where my sons’ football team had a preseason “Mass” which had a Crucifix that featured a detached corpus that resembled an Alien and had what my son stated, “looked like gills”.
  3. Wreckovated Churches all over the country that look like masonic halls with all the stained glass, statues, altars, tabernacles and stations, etc. removed.
I could go on. And I realize that yours and many other historic churches may be very Catholic in architecture and liturgy, but so were many of these “churches” that I described above right up until the new priest arived who decided to start “fixing” things.

So, it is not my statement that is showing disrespect but rather the actual culprits who are creating these abominations to satisfy that portion of the spectrum of cafeteria catholics ( I’d say these days it’s more like an all you can eat smorgesboard ).

Yes, our neighboring parish calls their church a worship center, and the inside is the worship space. Also, the first hymn sung is called the “gathering song”, the offertory hymn is now called the “gifting song”, and the last song is called the “sending song”. Where did all this rubbish come from? Are these terms local or used all over? Oh yes, the area just outside the worship space doors, is called the gathering space. It’s usually so loud out there, that you can’t hear yourself think, let alone try to pray. Ah, but this is progress.

Well. Strike three at my parish happened tonight.

Again it was the Music Minister and choosing a new Mass Setting, this time for Advent. She was going over it before mass and everything was OK until the Agnus Dei. It does not even have “Lamb of God” in it. I got up and just left before Mass even started.

Monday, I will be going out to the parish I was thinking of joining and join (I attended the late Saturday evening Mass tonight). Fortunately, their offices are open until 8:00 PM.

I’m sorry, let me clarify.
Did they omit the Lamb of God totally or change the words?

(both make me shutter)
The changed the wording. There is no “Lamb of God, You take away the sins of the world” in any of the refrains. The only thing that was left is “have mercy on us” and “grant us peace”. Plus it was 4 instead of three refrains (3 “have mercy on us” and 1 “grant us peace”) and the only thing the not sing by the cantor (in this case the Music Minister) eas the “have mercy on us” and “grant us peace”.

Ahhh… Parish shopping… Why not just find a Traditional ROMAN CATHOLIC church and know that the Mass will be pert near exactly the same as any other Traditional ROMAN CATHOLIC church anywhere in the world. 👍

You should NEVER** EVER **have to parish shop… it is suposed(sic) to be ONE Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.

Because I had a person from a certain schsmatic group on another forum trying for force the TLM down our throats for a number of year (to him the current Mass was invalid), I have no desire to attend a TLM.

It’s really not that far from Southfield to SS Cyril’s.
Could you use a ride?

I plan on joining Our Lady of Sorrows. I hav eheard good things about the new Pastor and I like the Associate Pastor. I also like how they have 2 Masses on Saturday and 5 on Sunday.

I will also be spending some time down at the Grotto due to joining a confranternity there.

Today I find myself in the same situation as you - in a parish where the words are changed and other undesireable changes. I, however, am seriously thinking of the TLM INDULT mass 60 miles away. Every mile, every drop of gas, will be well worth it. I won’t let any schisimatics scare me away. This church is fully in communion with Rome and has the blessing of their bishop. I know there are many beautiful, well-done NO masses out there, but I am sick of being afraid of “What are they going to do next?” What horrible, new musical rendition will we get from the “floor show”? (Today we had a very spirited flutist who sounded like she was playing the music from “The Munsters”.

Now if I can only convince my husband… 😦

Fantastic!
And if you need to join us for a Holy Mass or two, I’m a PM away! 🙂

Sorry to come in so late on this, but I can’t resist the chance to explain about the “Lamb of God!” Sure, it’s required, but the posts I read didn’t explain the “why” it’s required, probably because so few Catholics have really had Scripture basics.

Those of us who have had the advantage of taking Scott Hahn’s and Jeff Cavins’ classes, especially Hahn’s Exodus class, understand that it was, has been and continues to be the LAMB, and ONLY THE LAMB that took/takes away the sins of the world. To jazz it up for either variety or to drag out the time while the EMs are getting their supplies is a hideous distortion of salvation history.

The significance of the lamb goes all the way back to Abel, and appears again and again right through Revelation. Please understand that this is a good reason for delving into Scripture Big Time. It’s fascinating, and the lack of such info contributes to making supposed educated Catholics look really ignorant.

Sometimes I have the feeling that contributors to these posts just want to talk, but don’t really care to learn. In this case the facts are all there. If you really care about this, study the materials Hahn and Cavins have put out. (I have no financial interest in any of their works!)

I know the assoiciate at Sorrows and he is 100% rock solid, not to mention being a great guy 👍 .

You might also check out St. Gerald’s in Farmington. That parish uses altar BOYS in cassocks, and patens for Communion and I know that the pastor is rock solid.
