My soul and livelihood belong to my job

I really have nothing left for God. I try to keep God in my heart and mind all day long but honestly, it interferes with my work. Mind you, I’m not someone who is a workaholic, someone who puts his job and career before everything else. I actually don’t like my job and I could really care less about amassing much wealth. The fact still remains that my job is my job and it requires my soul.

I’m sorry, but I don’t understand what job requires such devotion, and why keeping God in your heart would interfere with work.

In any case, we must do our jobs, but God always come first.

perhaps perspective could be gained by reading the catechism on the topic if the first commandment, and also the section on the Lord’s prayer.

I hope you find another home for your soul and another object for your devotion before you get downsized, laid off or your job moves to Swaziland.

God is everywhere and in everything, so, just knowing God is present is enough.

You don’t need to keep your mind focused on God 24/7. Even monks living in a cloister don’t do this.

Instead of perceiving God as someone out there, someone far away, know that all baptized Christians have the indwelling Holy Spirit within us. Instead of thinking God takes away concentration on your job, know that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you, and invite Him to be your sales partner.

You don’t have to do any time consuming devotion at work.
Instead, starting with a short coversation with God, a quick lift-up of the heart will be sufficient.

Do you believe the product you are selling is beneficial? If so you have no problem. Don’t you know, dear fellow Christian, that your work is a prayer to God? It is! 🙂

I’m a “lowly” housewife. Cleaning toilets is not my idea of fun or of worship, unless I make it fun and worship. Fun by creating a scenario of adventure out of it (a very Chestertonian approach) and by offering up my work to God to please him first and as my duty to my family second.

Work is not a separate thing from our life in Christ–it ought to be a large part of it. If you cannot see your work as a benefit then move on to something else. There’s nothing wrong with pursuing other careers that would be better suited to your personal spirituality.
 
I admire you very much for being a salesman. I would be scared
to do this job! Seeing has God has given you this much courage,
is there anything He won’t do for you? He gave you an important
job interacting with people. This is a great way to share your
faith.
 
Everyone feels far from God sometimes, even Mother Theresa!

When I feel far from God, there are 3 reasons:
  1. I didn’t get enough sleep
  2. I need to go to confession
  3. I forgot my favorite Bible verse.
    Proverbs 3:6 – In all your ways acknowledge Him, and
    He will direct your paths.
If it’s #3, I ask myself, “In which of my ways am I not acknowledging Him?”

He isn’t far away. He’s merely not letting you feel/sense his presence. When God does that he is prompting you to seek him all the more. A meditative reading of the Song of Songs with this in mind might help you see this. The pivotal verses are:

Cant.3
[1] Upon my bed by night
I sought him whom my soul loves;
I sought him, but found him not;
I called him, but he gave no answer.
[2] “I will rise now and go about the city,
in the streets and in the squares;
I will seek him whom my soul loves.”
I sought him, but found him not.
[3] The watchmen found me,
as they went about in the city.
“Have you seen him whom my soul loves?”
[4] Scarcely had I passed them,
when I found him whom my soul loves.
I held him, and would not let him go
until I had brought him into my mother’s house,
and into the chamber of her that conceived me.

Think of the bride as your soul, for all souls are feminine/receivers within the context of God’s love and grace. I hope this helps you. 🙂
 
The presence of God is a practice you have to acquire. Think “how Jesus would sell this?” or “how would I sell this to Jesus?” The thing is to see Jesus in everybody and if you can’t (because the person is too bad), then think what would Jesus do?
 
May I suggest you pray to God every morning asking for His help with your day. Offer Him all your accomplishments and good works. Offer Him also your hardships. Even the most mundane of days are of great value when gifted to God. Also, be sure to go to confession and get to Mass. Make use of the wonderful sacra-ments God has given us to strenghten us in our spiritual journey.

**I]***The enemy of our souls is always seeking to destroy us. :knight1: Especially our faith in the one who created us, loved us and died for our sins.

Don’t allow the things and circumstances of this world to destroy your trust and faith in God. Remember the parable of the sower. Some seeds fell by the way side. Don’t allow yourself to fall by the wayside.Instead, get dressed. Put on the whole armor of God! (Ephesians 6:10) :knight2:
