Hello. Just wondering…

I’m enjoying the faith more and more as time goes on… and I’m wondering about my background.

Someone recently asked me what my confirmation name is. I dind’t know. I asked my parents and here’s my history:

I was baptized at 4 weeks old into the Ukrainian Catholic church. At this time, I was also confirmed. I do not recall picking a confirmation name. 😛

When I was 8, I attended Sunday school (because I went to a public school) for a year or two and then did First Communion at 9 or 10.

I have been going to the RCC all my life, except for a few years when I did go to the UCC - during the time I was a Ukrainian dancer.

So… is there anything about my status I don’t know about?

canonically you belong to the rite of your father. If he was Ukranian Catholic and you were baptized there you are Ukranian Catholic. Your baptismal certificate will show what sacraments you have received, and your rite. You are probably already confirmed, and may have received Eucharist at the same time, with baptism. This is the normal original order and timing for the sacraments, by the way, preserved in your Church, lost in the West. Your confirmation name is your baptismal name.

Your Confirmation name would be your Baptismal name. You are a Ukrainian Catholic, but are welcome to attend Mass at any Latin Rite Catholic Church. Do not however loose sight of the fact that you are a Ukrainian Catholic. Learn about your Ritual Church, it’s history and Liturgy also attend the Divine Liturgy as often as you can.

This follows from what others have said but I’m just pointing it out.

Chances are you didn’t make your “First” Communion when you were 9 or 10 because you’d most likely already done so when you were a baby.

Thank you so much to all!

I have thought about attending the UCC again. I’m living in a new city and the lady that cuts my hair is Ukie and keep trying to get me to attend. I’m busy some Sunday mornings and the 7pm Mass at the RCC is very convenient to attend.

I’ve thought about going back to Ukrainian dance again. I’m 34 but still in excellent shape. Doing the two might go hand in hand.

And SMHW, you’re right. I’m sure I did receive when I was young. I hope He’ll forgive me if I don’t remember the event. 😃

Update:

I went to my first Divine Liturgy in my new city.

WOW! What a beautiful experience! I had forgotten how great the Liturgy is. I last went to DL ~ 8-9 years ago when I was dancing, and in another city. I also participated in a church luncheon.

It can be a bit daunting when you don’t know anyone. I hope that I am received well and become someone the regulars wish to get to know. God knows I wish to know more about them.

Just write a simple note to the parish and request the information. They will mail you all the facts. Good luck.
