The very few temples that have these don’t really have what I would call a “missionary” environment where there would be an opportunity to have any menaingful Q&A on doctrine, etc.
During the Olympics they has bus loads of missionaries around Temple Square, is that only when there are large events in SLC?

Yes!

The Olympics is not typical of how things work there. SLC is different than other temples though. It does have a large visitor center with much to see but even there it isn’t very interactive. The LDS PR execs know better than to have a large tourist presence without strict control of the environment/agenda/etc.

You can view static displays, read pamphlets, watch videos and sometimes even listen to a tour guide deliver a carefully memorized presentation. They will ask those with an interest to fill out a contact card so that missionaries can contact them later. They want one on one personal discussions when in missionary mode. They want one way communication when in advertising mode.

OK, then I see this approach more futile than inappropriate. I thought a lot of the posts were kinda harsh when he had a good idea (if there were missionaries available).

My main goal would be to ask question that would make them think. However, what you seem to be saying is that I won’t get much of a chance to ask those questions. Still it would be instructive to try. For example if they mention a great apostacy to ask exactly when it occured and what the circumstances were. Most would probably not know and if they were at all curious they might look into it and discover there was no apostacy and ergo no need for a “restoration”.

As to the answer to such questions, I would suspect they’d have an answer that satisfied them, even if you know it to be false, thus leaving you with who’s truth is truth. You’re not likely to spark much interest with that. I’ve been told that the Church apostocy occurred with Constantine, when Roman rule took over the Church. Of course we know this to be a gross error, but to someone who “knows” otherwise, it’s not likely to spark this flame of curiosity you seem to anticipate.

God, of course, through the Holy Spirit, will be the ultimate determiner of what results you get.

Just be certain you’re going for the right reasons. What you do reflects on the entire Church.

CARose (no pressure 🙂 )

I think you will find them politely asking you to hold your questions to the end and then trying to answer them one on one. Even then you will probably get generic pap and an invitation to have the missionaries visit you.

I think I will fill out one of the cards and put down one of my friends names and addresses. Hee hee.

Thanks to all who participated. This thread is now closed.
