Right let’s put it this way,

A whore is not a prostitute.
A prostitute is not a whore.

A prostitute performs a service for cash. (This is CAF)

Whore is a degenerate and often offensive name for a female. (Again this is CAF)

The bible verse in Revelation 17:5

Actually says,

jewels and pearls, and she was holding a gold winecup filled with the disgusting filth of her prostitution;
17:5 on her forehead was written a name, a cryptic name: ā€˜Babylon the Great, the mother of all the prostitutes and all the filthy practices on the earth.’
17:6 I saw that she was drunk, drunk with the blood of the saints, and the blood of the martyrs of Jesus; and when I saw her, I was completely mystified

(Note mother of )

Then the angel explains
17:18 The woman you saw is the great city which has authority over all the rulers on earth.’

Read the passages. It’s about war.

The verse says

Mother of prostitute

Not mother of whore

And you need to interpret it correctly. And you can easily, because the Angel does that for us

( a woman not swapping services for cash can still be called a whore, as can women for any number of things).

Revelation 17:1. One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, "Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute

Check whichever version of the scriptures you like.

New International Version
One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, "Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits by many waters.

New Living Translation
One of the seven angels who had poured out the seven bowls came over and spoke to me. ā€œCome with me,ā€ he said, "and I will show you the judgment that is going to come on the great prostitute, who rules over many waters.

English Standard Version
Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, ā€œCome, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who is seated on many waters,

Berean Study Bible
Then one of the seven angels with the seven bowls came and told me, "Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits on many waters.

Berean Literal Bible
And one of the seven angels having the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, "Come here, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, the one sitting upon many waters,

This was a conversation about not interpreting the scripture literally, which I suggested the poster not do because otherwise they would need to accept Revelation involves giant prostitutes drinking blood. Allegorically or Metaphorically, they can be read in a less ridiculous light which is what you’re suggesting.

We don’t need to interpret this because the angel does it for us. Keep reading the passages.

And quit swapping mother of prostitutes for mother of whore

And the Angel tells us what the mother of prostitutes represents

Your error in reading and interpreting scripture starts here.

And your insult about a sharpie is way out of line, as is most of this post.

The angel never calls this image a prostitue.

Read the passage.

And you are again way out of line in your comments.
We are to express our views in a charitable way on CAF.

If you are serious about undertaking post grad in Catholic studies, you are firstly going to have to learn how Catholics read and interpret Biblical passages.

I wish you well. You have a long hard road ahead of you.

Did you not read any of the links?

http://biblehub.com/revelation/17-1.htm

ā€œCome, I will show you the punishment of the Great Prostituteā€. Alternatively the ā€œGreat Whoreā€. Some editions posted in the link above use Harlot but these are non-Church approved editions such as the Aramaic in Plain English unlike the NIV which is.

I respond in kind to how I am spoken to.

I am already a post-graduate of Catholic studies. I hold Theological Qualifications, I merely wondered was it worth explicitly taking some of the same training a professed priest does alongside them.

In either case, we agree not to interpret Revelation literally, the above poster was alluding to the idea that we should be taking it literally.

I think there is some truth to the notion of hell but it is only in relation to how intensely we believe in it. Some traditional versions of hell suggest that it is separation from God but this fails to take into account His omnipresence. God is infinite and nothing can ever be separate from what is infinite. So how can one be separate from God? We can believe we are separate and think that we can be apart but it is a delusion. The notion of hell seems to me a projection of the hell within us which stems from a belief that we are apart from what is infinite.

Some people can only guess at the terrible, dark place Hell is. Having to live with yourself is one of the worst parts. If the ugliness of the spirit comes through when one looks into a mirror, that could provoke a lot of thought about the viciousness of Hell.

I won’t go into too many details, but on the news a man cut a puppy’s head off to spite his girlfriend. Ugly. Another guy bashed his dog’s head in with something. The news is constantly filled with people who shoot each other; parents who kill their children, and all sorts of things. It is the beginning of Hell.Think of a place where fire takes over miles and miles of land. Everything is burned. That is just the beginning of what Hell would be like.

No hell on earth. God didn’t put us in an empty world without tasks. The idea is to forget about oneself and wait for the happiness bestowed after doing God’s work. Others become your primary welfare in life. Suicide becomes suddenly meaningless. When we get to our heavenly home is when we talk and reminisce about the good times on earth and the joy of that thank you and the smile from someone you helped. We hate the world, the prayer says, but we recall the works that brings us joy, and the acquaintances and those that gave us second chances or took our place when we deserved it.

See Beatitudes.

People should look up what father Rippinger has to say about hell based on teachings of Saint Thomas and others. I don’t mean to be harsh, but this notion everyone going to heaven or hell being just some human manifestation is just false and dangerous thinking. This type of thinking is what being a cafeteria Catholic is all about.

I do agree with the notion that one can start living and displaying characteristics of hell in their life when they start reaping seeds they have sewn. Catching STDs, having mental issues and so own. Some of the Saints talk about that.

We are only on earth 80 or 90 years if we are fortunate. Then eternity comes. That’s forever. Only someone really reckless or in denial would not do all they possible could to properly prepare for eternity. By all means, enjoy life, but we need to take Church teachings seriously! The way IS narrow! Our Lord said all of this plainly, and so have the Saints.

Really, what’s your qualification and from which institution?

This is only somewhat correct but you must remember that hell after this world is not loneliness. You won’t be alone if you go there. The fallen angels and the devil have their dominion there. What that place of fire and suffering is, is a place of total separation from God without hope and without relief. Don’t fall for modernist heresy that claims that hell ā€œis a state of mindā€. There is evil on earth but to persist that it is hell on earth because of that, is similar to Luthers notion we are all poles of dung covered in snow. That is simply incorrect and contradicts the inherent dignity all people have from God as the result of being made in his likeness. To deny the devil and hells existence is to proclaim our Lord a liar. He clearly stated in the gospels the existence of hell. That is why he was sent to die for us.

If you want clarity refer to the scriptures and the Catechism of the Church for aid in understanding. God bless :).

God Bless you,

It would be hard to live with themself after that and I am not to sure how many people would be willing to live with them either.

Ah, bonne nuit, Jean-Paul Sartre! I didn’t know you’d be joining the party.
