I am a State employee and I belong to the SEIU. When I got my job five years ago I was sent a letter that said I could be a member of the SEIU and pay dues or I could not join and pay “service fees”, whatever that means. I am sickened by the recent violence done to a man by members of the SEIU who was exercising his freedom of speech outside a town hall meeting for the government health care plan .
I do not support the very liberal views of the SEIU and I do not want to support them financially. I also have five children to support and I do not know the problems leaving the SEIU would create. I’ve heard people ask questions similar to this but I don’t remember the responses. I’m just sad that I even feel this way about an organization that is suppose to help its members. It just seems like it’s helping itself.
