My whine session about Palm Sunday Mass yesterday - reading the "short form" of the Passion

Clearly there is nothing wrong with it , and you do well to point this out . šŸ™‚

I wonder sometimes why some Roman Catholics go to mass .

For some their sole objective seems to be to find fault .

They need to assess their relationship with Jesus Christ .
Now, now, I did admit that this was me whining - so it’s about my feelings and preferences, which I know should be taken with a grain of salt! šŸ˜‰ It’s never my ā€œsole objective . . . to find faultā€ with the Mass. I’m allowed to express that I just wish I could’ve had one experience but was given another - probably to teach me something, right? :o I think there are folks of most religions who have mixed experiences with their services, and if we’re mature, we realize we shouldn’t take those mixed reactions overly seriously. But if we want to mention them, we don’t mean any harm unless we get really snarky, I don’t think.🤷

We had the long version with three readers. I didn’t even know there was a short version. I would feel a bit cheated with a shorter version since I have known nothing else but the long version with three readers almost my entire life. And, interestingly enough, I actually was distracted Sunday and told myself I would probably settle down as we got further along and I could get more involved. I was right. So I understand your points. I do wish we were asked to sit, though.

Our priest asked us at the homily if we wanted his long or short version, meaning the homily. Maybe some thought he meant the Passion, because a lot of people answered long. He had to ask twice and throw in the word homily. Still some people said long. He is from Africa and does not tend to watch the clock, still he said, ā€œWell, you are getting the short sermon because the gospel was so long. So I give you a break.ā€ He is pretty cool. Every Sunday he starts Mass with ā€œHappy to see youā€ and waits for us to respond in kind. He told a story once about growing up with no running water and having to walk to the river (or creek?) to load up big vases full of water and carry it home every day. I feel lucky that we have such a priest.

Anyway, perhaps EWTN put the Palm Sunday Vatican Mass on YouTube. It was really good.

I like anything that makes the Mass shorter when I have my 10 month old and 4 year old with me.

If I am by myself I am fine and enjoy a longer Mass.
