Alright, so what if you were just kidding. I think what the bible says is something to the tune of “we are not of this world” meaning worldly posessions are not what we should value. We should value each other. So, when you make fun of your wife wanting a lamp and end table what you are doing is telling us that you and your wife do not value each other but your posessions. I do not put the family finances on my wife, I take care of them. I work in human services so I know how to make a dollar strech. If you need some help making your dollars strech angel food ministries is a good source www.angelfoodministries.com. They have many non-catholic churches participating in this ministry. What they do is sell food at a very discounted rate. $30.00 to feed a single person for a month. We’ve participated and they gave us probably enough food to fed us for longer. We have two small children too. They accept cash and food stamps for payments. I’m in a little bit better place financially so we stopped participating. That, and my work schedule is different so I don’t eat dinner at home. Try joining a credit union too. They are way better than banks because they are out for your best interests. Most are non-profit co-ops. They have loans with very reasonable APR’s and give you a solid way to bring up your credit score with no hidden costs or fine print. Plus, it could help you save money for a major purchase, like a home or car. IPods are fun, but, I think I would rather have a nice house or good car to drive than a silly MP3 player. Wait until you have kids, you won’t have time to sit and listen to an IPod!😃 😃 :😃 😃 👍

If you can’t afford it, then your wife shouldn’t have to tell you no. If you can afford it, then you shouldn’t need to ask.

We just re-started a two year old thread…

I’d like to hear from the OP what ended up happening, and how things are going with him and his wife:)
Dang. I hate when that happens. 😊

With the talk of a table lamp, why does the movie “A Christmas Story” all of a sudden come to mind???

Hubby and I are on a very tight budget. What we find works for us is including ourselves in the budget. If there is enough money at the end of a paycheck we each get $20.

We can do anything we want with this money and not be nagged about it. He saved up his and combined it with some gift money and bought an IPOD. He loves it!!! But I can tell you right now that if it had come out of the famly finances I would be pretty upset, lol.

It has made such a difference. I know $20 isn’t much, but it is way better than the nothing we had before;) . It has helped us keep our sanity through financially difficult times.

I think that’s a fabulous solution.

I want to buy an ipod so i can download and listen to all the Catholic Answers shows that Jimmy Akin is on. But my wife says if we can’t afford the table lamp she’s been asking for, we can’t afford an ipod. I told her it’s for my spiritual welfare but she doesn’t listen. Can you believe she’s so mean. How can I convince her 😉
Tell ya what, I’ll give my hubby’s ipod to you. 😃

I can’t stand that thing. It’s always attached to his ears. Spirituality smirituality.

Yeah! At least he didn’t want a red rider B B gun. He might have shot his eye out! Well, no “major award” for these lamp lovers!

I just want to move on with my life and talk about stuff that is important like family and relationships and ending this stupid war in Iraq and the state our economy has got to. I only repiled to this post because my wife is mean, but I think her meaness is because of something more serious, like hormones, depression, or mental health issues. She’s argues about everything and she’s never forgiving about even the slightest imperfection. I just want to find better ways of making her happy than showering her with flowers, taking her out to eat and wispering sweet nothings into her ear. Because the thing is it’s financially and emotionally draining to have a high maintenance wife, especially when there is no recipicosity to the relationship. Everything is one way-- her way or the highway!

I’m not a very emotional person. I like calm, stable people in my personal life. People with goals and who are driven by success. Not by whining and complaining because they think their life is so unfair. And their middle name is “drama.” Most of which is how they perceive thier own life and the situations they put themselves in.

I cannot stand it when people yap at me becaue they need this or they want that. Go make the money, buy what you want , then, when you want something else, do the same thing. It’s called reality.
If your job sucks, that means you need to find a new one. If you want to make more money but, only have a high school diploma. Get some education… like a Master’s degree in something where you’ll make money. I have an aunt who got one in Computer Science. She made lots of cash working for a large firm in Florida that plays with fast moving transportation devices that take people into outer space. I don’t want to mention the name but it’s initals are N.A.S.A.
Say like you go to college and get a masters in divinity. You won’t get rich. You might even not get a job. Unless you’re Joel Olsten and write books and sell them at borders for $19.95 a copy.

I can tell you how to be successful… I can tell you what to do to be happy. I can tel yo how to get to heaven, and I can tell you how to damn yourself to hell. But, all the telling doesn’t mean a thing unless you get off your butt and do something about it. Do something stupid… you’ll end up broke, in jail, or dead Use what God gave you to do good things, you’l go far. Identify your talents and maximize the usefulness of them into assets that will bring you to the forefront of your profession. Don’t wait for others to make the decision for you, because you’ll be waiting forever. If you have to take things to the extreme, do what you got to do, just remember, for every action their is a reaction.

Schwooooo! I need a nap after al that!

Later and God bless you. Get to church this weekend. Cuz God says so !
