Mysteries of the Rosary

Hello,

Does anyone have a resource as to why the particular mysteries of the Rosary were chosen - I mean as opposed to other events in the life of Christ?

The original fifteen were given to Saint Dominic by Our Lady, and Pope John Paul the Great decided on the luminous mysteries through prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Hello,

Our Lady appearing to Saint Dominic would be a private revelation and no Catholic is bound to believe it. I have heard other credible explanations of how the Rosary was developed.

But, I am not looking for an explanation of how the Rosary came to us, but why the particular mysteries were chosen.
