Is there some kind of specification for where to place a Crucifix in a household? The internet probably has some kind of answer, but I thought of bringing it here and I hope others have the same manner of thinking. It was never really told to me as a youth to my recollection and didn’t seem of that much importance to us before we had the internet.

NO! You may place it wherever you want.

I think the only specification is that you don’t do anything like trying to replicate certain modern art involving the crucifix and bodily fluids.

I doubt very much there are any hard and fast rules, though I suppose it’s always possible there is some pious tradition in this regard that I have never heard of.

I put them wherever it makes sense in the space: on the center of the wall, over the doorway, above the light switch, on a bookshelf, etc. You can pretty much see a crucifix no matter where you are in my house. Except the bathroom. It always seemed like I shouldn’t put one in the bathroom.

Good call, the bathroom sounds crazy. My thing is, you never know when homelessness strikes so you gotta be prepared. Mine is paper so it won’t poke holes in bags and it can keep my important papers safer when I march through hell.

I have no idea if there is a preccedent here, but I would place it on the eastern wall

Why is that? . . .

Put them where they make sense. We have them in bedrooms, and a fairly large one in our living room.

In our culture, we put one in every bedroom. Above the bed.
We also put a SAcred Heart over the front door.

In my culture, I’m pretty sure you put things wherever you think you’ll get into the least trouble for putting a nail hole in the wall.

In the old days (Pre vat 2), churches usually faced east, with a crucifix
on that eastern wall for the whole congregation to focus upon…

God bless you.
I just often think this is why people say we are superstitious.
Have a beautiful Sunday friend. 🌻

The sound lovely and I would love to find out all about them at some point. One thing not growing up Catholic is you don’t really get a lot of the little stuff that’s handed down. I mostly tend to muddle my way through with what feels appropriate and advice from a few friends.

This is quite wise. People sometimes develop devotions because others promise them effectiveness by doing so.
The best devotion is one that comes from your heart…and may be something entirely different from anyone else’s and may be totally new!

True. I like learning though, because you never know what things you might never have thought of on your own. The evangelical stuff I grew up with was very intellectual, people didn’t really do “devotions”. So there’s a lot out there that would never have occurred to me.

Yup, not disagreeing! Just adding on - maybe I shouldn’t do that before coffee though.
