Are there any NAB editions with notes that are different (i.e. more traditional) than those typically found in the NAB translation? Or do they all have the same terrible liberal notes?
Wasn’t the NAB approved by the Church, which would include approving the notes? If so, are you sure they are that terrible? I may be wrong, I thought any printed edition of the NAB for Catholics required Church approval. Are there any NAB editions with notes that are different (i.e. more traditional) than those typically found in the NAB translation? I believe that only the text is approved, not the notes–and one has to question why certain texts like the NAB are approved when they aren’t deemed suitable, at least in part, to be used in liturgy. And yes I am positive that a majority of the notes are terrible, particularly if one wants to strengthen their Catholic faith and understanding of certain Church beliefs and teachings. Any bible that has notes that claim Matthew was not written by Matthew is suspect in my book, regardless of what the Church says–and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.Wasn’t the NAB approved by the Church, which would include approving the notes? All I know is that the NAB Bible I got in my Catholic high school (many years ago) has both the nihil obstat, and imprimatur. It doesn’t specify that those approvals apply to only part of the book.I believe that only the text is approved, not the notes–and one has to question why certain texts like the NAB are approved when they aren’t deemed suitable, at least in part, to be used in liturgy.
