This is the version read at mass here in the U.S., but not many Catholics seem to like it. Wich begs the question, why then is it used in mass here?! :confused::eek:

The New American Bible is used in the United States because it is the approved translation by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in coordination with the Holy See and, specifically, the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine.

The NAB is no more a static document than any other Biblical translation. The 4th edition will be available sometime this year.

I can’t answer the question regarding why some Catholics don’t like the NAB since it’s likely a matter of taste for their personal reading. While in Mass, the U.S. Catholics should appreciate the readings as they are (they *are *the official readings of the Church in the U.S., after all), but the use of the NAB in Mass doesn’t mean that they cannot go home to enjoy the Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition or other Catholic translations.

Because the Catholic Conference is responsible for this translation and they have the copy right so they are pushing it.

See above video. It talks about some of the non catholic things that the Catholic Conference of Bishops are involved in. I found it fascinating, if not a little disturbing.

As far as the NAB goes there are other threads on this topic. I found some of the foot notes are not based on Catholic dogma.

If you do a search you should find the other threads on the NAB.

I like the bible, but see some of the shortcomings in the language/translation. I also like the apologetic pages put together, I bought the Catholic Answer Bible edition. As far as the footnotes, I just check that out w/the folks like Dave Armstrong, besides, the print is too fine for me to bother with!
