NABRE links removed?

A hobby of mine is to download bibles and alter the css to make them readable. The online NABRE has done an excellent job with including the book marginal references and providing the interal links to them. They were often too much of a hassle to bother flipping to the page reference in printed format.

I would though, like to be able to read the Preface, The Pentateuch intro, the Historical intro, the Biblical Novellas intro, etc. of the USCCB NABRE on the USCCB bible site. (usccb.org/bible/books-of-the-bible/index.cfm)

The links have been broken. Does anyone know why this happened and why it was done? And how to fix it. Is there a reason for their being expurgated?

You may want to check with the publishers of these works that you are still within copyright law here. Many copyright holders will not permit that kind of remixing, even for personal use.

Thanks for your reply. I don’t believe it is a question of copyright as you can still access these for the NAB at the Vatican site.(vatican.va/archive/ENG0839/_INDEX.HTM)

I’ve read that with the NABRE some of the links in the footnotes in the New Testament which wasn’t revised referred to incorrect locations in the Old Testament which was revised?

What is particularly irritating to me is that they were briefly available and I didn’t save the pages at that time and then they were disappeared. You are given the message “Please check the reference to make sure it is correct.” It is not the reader’s reference. It is the USCCB NABRE’s reference that is broken. They should fix it or if they don’t want people to read the Preface to the NABRE on their site then they should remove the links, not just break them.

For example, it would be helpful to most Catholic and non-Catholic bible readers to read the NABRE’s introduction commentary on the “Biblical Novellas”.(usccb.org/bible/scripture.cfm?src=_intros/novellas-intro.htm)

It is very irritating.

That would be a correct and proper thing to do and I have just done so. Thanks for your advice.

I figured that they would have been inundated by others also asking for these links to be repaired and that there were technical or other reasons to having them unavailable. I really would like the read the Preface and the intro to Biblical Novellas and the other intros too.

The NABRE site on Facebook was alerted to this problem. The person in charge of the site responded that they would report the problem to the USCCB site managers.
