Sorry if wrong forum.

Do you think it is inappropriate to have nails (as in crucifixion size nails) as a sacramental.

Probably not. I have seen crosses made of nails, but I never made the connection to crucifixion nails until just now.

If you’re using them to make a cross or otherwise to meditate on Christ’s Passion, then I think it’s fine.

Obviously you don’t want to use them to nail yourself to a cross or anything like that.

I wear a cross made from nails. I keep it on a long chain and wear it under my clothing all the time.

Personally I would think it would be unwieldy to have crucifixion sized nails simply because nails used for crucifixion would have been somewhere between maybe 6 to 8+ inches long.

On the other hand if you mean nails in a style to bring to mind the nails used to nail Christ to the cross, I see no issue with it. I have seen plenty of items in the shape of the Crown of Thorns so I see no difference between items as nails, thorns, flails or anything else that reminds us of the torture Christ endured for our sake.

Just curious why you would consider it inappropriate? (assuming you do believe that)

I have seen parishes that have had the nails from the old demolished parish church building melted down and cast into the new crucifix (or just the corpus) for the new church building.
