I’m due today but that is obviously not happening.

We have a daughter called Mared Concepta (Mared is a version of Margaret) who is just 2.

My husband loves Martyn but is it too Protestant? Too many Ms?
I like Joseph but does it feel plain next to Mared ?
We both like Meical/Michael but again it is an M
But then we think do we just go with a version of John? Ioan, Iwan, Ianto, Siôn, Ieuan etc

I’m too pregnant to be dealing with this !

Nothing wrong with two M’s.
Matthew.
Marc
Melissa

lots of cool names.

Melissa on a boy !?
It wasn’t super clear from your first post that you are expecting a boy. On first read I got the impression that you hadn’t found out. :o

Lots of families have a “theme” with their names. Every name with the same first letter is a common one.

Prayers for a happy, safe delivery. 🙂

I think Martin or a variation is just fine, though I’d be worried about it sounding similar to Mared.

Ahh okay, thanks and sorry. I obviously thought by just mentioning boy names it was obviously, my bad
I don’t think we want a ‘theme’ in a Duggar way. Saint names sure but that doesn’t really count does it?

Thanks, if it ever happens

Is there a cultural significance to the spelling of the names. They are not common in the language and culture I’m familiar with?

I don’t like mared. Looks too much like marred, the past tense of the verb mar, to disfigure. But does it rhyme with jar head?

Martyn seems odd with the y. But not Protestanty at all. I know several priests named Martin.

I love Joseph! But I detest “joe”

I love Michael! I like all the nick names. I like the regular spelling. By hats the one I would choose.

Mared is already born and toddling around my feet. Said like Ma-red (The a like in apple)

If it is a spelling you don’t recognise they are the Welsh spellings. In Martyn in Welsh you need the y to make it sound right because an i doesn’t make the right sound (I believe it is spelt that way in Ukrainian also)
There is no K in Welsh hence Meical and you get Meic not Mike.

Is there another nn to Joseph? I don’t like Joey. But my dad thinks it fits with another December baby

I am sorry, I misread about mared.

I guess I am unfamiliar with the Welsh customs so I’ll refrain from offering further advice.

I may regret this but I’m currious as to what “December” has to do with any name?

No need to refrain from advice - we need it.
Meical, Martyn are said the same basically as they are as Michael and Martin
Siôn is said the same as Sean. Ianto is Yan-to, Iwan is Oo/Ew-an, Ioan is Yo-an.

Well it is Christmas time, so my dads comment related to honouring the holy family in some way.
Mared was born on the 8th December so got Concepta as a middle name…

I like meical and Martyn.

Probably Martyn the most.

I like Iwan and Siôn the best. Meical is a good choice, too, but I’m wary of naming the first two children with the same letter because I know a few parents who did that and then felt trapped into doing it for the third kid so he out she wouldn’t feel left out.

If you like a name, don’t worry about it being shortened. My son has a name that can be shortened and we never refer to him as anything but his full name. No one at school or anywhere else has shortened it either. It just becomes how you present it. So just call him Joseph all the time and other people will too. Or they will be gently corrected. 😉

Huh?
We are name shorteners, that is what happens where we live and we both do it.

No we certainly don’t want to get into a situation where we feel obligated to continue to use M.

We haven’t even started on middle names 😦

I meant if you like Joseph, but not Joe, just call him Joseph.
I have no issue with Joe, another poster did

The more I say it though the more I don’t like it and I don’t think it goes with Mared
