This is a follow up thread to my previous thread of five films you’ve seen five times.

Going through that one, I realized that I haven’t seen a few films.

So my five are:
  1. “A Christmas Story”. Nope, never saw it, not even one time. The main character though I remember as “Messy Marvin” From the Hershey syrup commercials in the 1980’s.
  2. “The Lord of the Rings trilogy”. I’ve attempted but never lasted more than ten minutes. My husband is a fan. And he tries to get me into it. But no, not my style.
  3. “The Graduate”. I’ve seen some scenes, like the end on the bus. Never from start to finish.
  4. “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.”
  5. I’ve not been able to finish “The Passion of the Christ”. I just can’t. I tried, I got dizzy. I get vasovagal fainting spells. It’s just too intense.

Diehard
Avatar
The Big Lebowski
Fight Club
Goodfellas

For whatever reason, these movies just never happened for me. I’d be willing to see all of them except Avatar. I never saw the appeal of that one.

The Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings stuff (counts as 7 movies, no?)
Avatar
The last Star Wars (Rise of Skywalker?)
Titanic
Madea makes an American Pie in a Hot Tub Time Machine

Indiana Jones Saga
Kill Bill
Twelve Monkeys
Mrs Doubtfire
Nosferatu

There are many, many movies on people’s lists, on that other thread, that I had never even heard of, let alone watched. I think your tastes and mine, @F_Marturana, seem to be quite closely aligned. I went to see the very first Star Wars on first release, back in the late seventies (I think). I enjoyed it, but not to the point that I was keen to keep up with the sequels and prequels. One was enough for me. Years later, when I had become a grandfather, I took my grandson, who was then about eight, to watch one of those, but I don’t remember the title.

Similarly, I saw one of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the second one, I think. I recognize that it’s a good film of its kind, but then again, that kind of film doesn’t appeal to me all that much. I’ve never been a fantasy and science fiction fan.

It is very intense. The first time I saw it I cried. I saw it a second time after reading Bl Emmerich’s visions on the Passion just to check how much her account has in common with the movie. But yes it is intense.

I’ve never seen: Frozen 2 (Didn’t like the first one)
Wreck it Ralph: Ralph breaks the internet (Which I don’t think I would like as much as the first one, as I am more familiar with videogame culture than internet culture)
Star Wars Episode II
Star Wars episode III
I was so disgusted with Episode 1 (Although the N64 Pod racing game was cool, as were some of the fight scenes), that it turned me off of Star Wars for a while.
Most of The Avengers movies (Which I DO want to watch, just haven’t gotten around to it)

Rocky
Most Marvel, DC, and Star Wars movies
The Karate Kid
The Big Lebowski

  1. Citizen Kane
  2. Cleopatra (1963)
  3. Maltese Falcon
  4. Miracle on 34th Street
  5. Nosferatu (1922)

5 movies I haven’t seen that I actually want to see:
The Irishman
I Wanna Hold Your Hand
The Jesus Trip
The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946 Lana Turner version only)
Renaldo and Clara (I got 5 minutes into it during the shutdown, got distracted and never got back to it)

5 movies I haven’t seen that I don’t care that much about seeing but might take a look sometime if it were on a TV in a bar or something:
The Big Lebowski
Tom Jones
Fargo
Seven
The Hurt Locker

5 movies I never watched and don’t want to watch ever:
Eyes Wide Shut
The Matrix
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Royal Tenebaums
Before Sunrise (or any of its awful sequels)

The Last Jedi
The Rise of Skywalker
Avengers End Game
Captain Marvel
The Conjuring (too scary for me)

I am such a huge Star Wars fan but didn’t see the last two movies.

Maybe I’ll see them in the future.

I saw the last jedi but could not summarize the plot to save my soul. Hence: why would I want to see the last one?
(Same with the last few Harry Potters – I only finished the books out of inertia, but no interest in the films)

Yeah, I’ve only seen the first Star Wars and maybe some parts of the second. Never watched any more after that. Never saw any Harry Potter movies or read the books.

I think I may have seen parts of the first Christopher Reeve Superman movie, but in general I don’t bother seeing or following all those blockbuster franchise films.

I’m usually more interested in some Sundance Channel indie or foreign film.

I often like to watch them just to get some idea of how people live in another country, especially if it seems halfway realistic and not some big Hollywood/ Bollywood concept.

I remember when I saw “The Lunchbox”, apparently the filmmakers in India actually filmed the famous lunchbox delivery service going about their business. It was fascinating. Especially since I understand that mistakes like the one made in the film (they repeatedly mix up two men’s lunches) are very rare.

  1. Titanic (Already knew the ship sank. 😁 )
  2. Lord of the Rings trilogy
  3. The Silence of the Lambs
  4. Schindler’s List
  5. Citizen Kane
