Hi

I am just coming to the end of RCIA and will be Confirmed at Easter.

I have to pick a name for confirmation, I was going to use Matthew however someone in my class has already picked that one. (Francis has also gone).

I was thinking of Levi but not sure if I can have that one.

Any suggestions?

Alex

Why can’t you pick St. Matthew or St. Francis? Why would someone already picking that Saint matter?

Yes, you can choose Levi.

You can also choose Matthew or Francis. Just tell the pastor that’s who you want as a role model.

There is nothing wrong with there being two people choosing the same saint, that’s just manufacturing a crisis where none exists.

Plus, the sons of Levi were those who stayed true to the LORD; and refused to worship the false god represented by the golden calf.

They slew their idolatrous kinsmen and forever assumed the role of ministers and priests of the Most High God. Awesome sauce, that.

If you want too choose Matthew or Francis, you should. I am suggesting Michael.

There are always more than one who will choose Mary as their name for the Sacrament of Confirmation. How likely is it that the priest going to deny someone the Blessed Mother´s name? And there are always more than one Peter and Paul. Matthew means “Gift of YAHWEH” so…

I read “unique saints´ names” and already existing names and not something made up to sound more “saintly” like Virgo.

I usually say that it is the saint who chooses us. We don’t choose them and they are there to help us reach salvation.

Never heard of confirmation’s saint name until I moved to US, I think it is more of a tradition than a requirement. Anyway why you don’t try saintsnamegenerator.com it is a Catholic website and pick a random saint name for you. You may get some interesting picks!

That was my original thought. Then I remembered the apostle Matthew’s original name.

If the OP was thinking of St. Matthew the apostle Levi would be a very good choice.

Pick a saint that speaks to you. There are so many of them out there.

My saint is St. Sebastian.

When in doubt, you can always go with Saint Joseph. He protected the Holy Family, and he can do the same for us.

Levi is a good one, though.

People will ask you what your Saint name is from time to time. But, for the rest of your life. “My patron saint is: _____”. I personally picked Francis. And I can’t even remember if anyone else did. The name of my parish was St. Francis, but his story also resonated with me. There might have been 3 people who picked Francis, or I might’ve been the only one. Point is, I can’t remember, and neither will you. What’s important, is that you pick the Saint name that you want. So yes, pray about it. But, I wouldn’t let this affect your decision. If they’re making it a rule, then talk to whoever’s running RCIA and say you want this Saint name.

Pray about it, Myself and My Son prayed on the matter, and Our Saints chose us :slight_smile:I prayed, kept looking online for just random things, and St Therese of Lisieux kept popping up , No matter what I googled There she was 🙂 Once i looked up recipes and yep I had cookies and everything cleared, and there she was 🙂
I prayed to her, told her okay okay I got the message 😃

There is no reason you cannot have the same Confirmation name as someone else. At my parish, there are duplicates all the time—just as there are sometimes duplicates among their given names. There’s nothing wrong with that.
